Nine Days Until The Masters

Chipping Phil MickelsonWhat makes The Masters more than just a golf tournament!?  Is it that Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus are the youngest first time and two-time champions respectively!?  Is it that Jack Nicklaus has won 6 green jackets!?  Is it because in 1935 Gene Sarazen’s double eagle on 15th hole coined “the shot heard ‘round the world”!? There are only four wire-to-wire champions. Is it that the oldest Masters champion is golf’s great Jack Nicklaus at age 46?  Phil Mickelson’s shot from behind a tree on the 13th hole to 5 feet from the pin. Regardless of the event, it is easy to see why this tournament captures the eye of the golfing world, as millions of viewers will be glued to the TV waiting for history to unfold!

The Masters is just around the corner. The excitement is building and most golfing fanatics are slowly counting the seconds tick away. This is a yearly tradition for most players as the first Major of the year marks the start of the golf season, especially those of us in the northern climes!

Recognizing a Problem or a Slump

The big talk around the golfing world is the recent play of Jordan Spieth. Many seem panicked that The Masters is just 3 weeks away and the world’s number one player is struggling to make the cut. He has sparks of greatest, but his over all game is not meeting the expectations of himself or the media.

Jordan Spieth’s recent woes are an example for all golfers; professional or amateur. His challenge is not uncommon to most of us, but is he in a slump or is there a problem with his game. The real difficulty is not to fear the sudden changes in our game before we have a chance to figure out what is happening!

Adam Scott Peaking Before The Masters

Masters

Trending to The Masters

Adam Scott is the hottest golfer on the planet at this moment. Back-to-back wins has placed his name at the top of most lists as a favorite for The Masters in April. His solid play is the focus of the golfing world and who can dispute is seven-place rise in the world rankings in just two weeks. I can hardly wait to hear how the media changes its tune on how his putting is a solid part of his game and that he should have changed years ago; any comments on my part would not be helpful!

Adam Scott is playing fantastic golf. He appears unflappable as he navigates the tough holes during the last two weeks. His recovery shots and focused determination are what champions are made of and as such, we saw his name on the top of the leaderboard at the Honda Classic and The WGC – Cadillac Championship. Unfortunately, Scott might be peaking a bit early to be considered a favorite at The Masters!

2016 Golf Majors Predictions

Lost and Confused Signpost

This is how I feel predicting Major champions!

2016 is an exciting year for golf.  Many of the new young players and all the seasoned veterans are ready for golf’s biggest tournaments.  Golf’s major championships are just around the corner and, as seen in previous years, players are setting their schedules to peak at the right time. Given the rise and fall of players in the top 10 of the world rankings, it is anyone’s guess who will win golf’s most prestigious events this year.

All professional golfers covet the four Majors: The Masters, US Open, The Open, and PGA Championship.  Each unique tournament tests the skill and tenacity of every player.  This year proves to be no different.  In 1930, Bobby Jones became the only player in modern golf to win all four tournaments in one year. Several other players have come close, but none have achieved this great feat. Given the skill of today’s players, this amazing accomplishment will likely not happen this year either, but everyone keeps waiting and hoping for another grand slam in golf!
