The Masters – Day 3

Inner Calm

The last day of The Masters will test the inner calm of all the players!

JORDAN SPIETH! I really do not have to say much more. Leading for 7 rounds in a row and looking strong enough to make it 8. If he continues to play well he will join the élite group of Jack Nicklaus, Nick Faldo and Tiger Woods as back to back champions at the Masters! Although he struggled on 17 and 18, his play to date is the highlight of the tournament!

However, there were other highlights of Day 2. I am not sure what you think are the high points, but here are mine.

The Masters – Day 2

Masters Trivia by The Grateful GolferIn a galaxy far, far away, there was a small group of talented and dedicated men trying to fight for their survival battling a golf course that was unrelenting at best. Day 2 at The Masters, Augusta National Golf Course proved to be that course! I am not sure what happened yesterday, but Augusta bared its teeth and took a huge bite out many of the worlds best golfers.

The 2016 Masters – Day 1

mastersWhat did I learn today about golf from watching Day 1 of The Masters? It sometimes is very difficult to see if there was any benefit or lessons learned from watching the Masters. But, this year I believe that watching the roller coaster ride of some of the players I have a couple of take aways from Day 1.

I am not sure if you watched all of today’s round, but I did not. Not surprisingly, there really was nothing unusual that will shock anyone….or was there! Continue reading

The Masters – Let the Games Begin

Let The Games Begin! The waiting is over! The Masters starts today! After much anticipation the honorary starters will tee things off at 8:05 am. Calling Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player (we will miss Arnold Palmer this year) to the hit the ceremonial first balls of the tournament is the beginning of “a tradition unlike any other”.

Following these golfing greats will be Jim Herman, winner of the Shell Houston Open last weekend, and Steven Bowditch. I cannot image the pressure and excitement these two will feel  following Nicklaus and Player at The Masters. I would be shaking like a leaf and hoping I made contact with the ball!  Continue reading

Picking the Masters Champion

Mike Weir Phil Mickelson

Picking The Masters Champion!

Picking the Masters Champion is a very difficult task. The field is at the 2016 Masters is world-class and the smallest since 2002. With just 89 players, the top ranked players seem to have a lock on winning the ‘green jacket’. However, given the dramatic finish at the Shell Houston Open last week, it is very difficult to discount more than half the field!

Understanding the plethora of variables used by odds makers, it is quite difficult for many armchair golfers to really have a handle on who might play well and who won’t. However, if you want to try your hand at selecting the champion, drop me a line via this website or other social media and I will add you to our lists. Click here. Continue reading
