Sportspal – 2 Man Challenge – The Final Day

The Sportspal golf tournament was completed yesterday. A highlight event at Osprey Links Golf Course it  pitted 69, 2-person teams in a Best Ball and Scramble format. After the best ball round on the first day, my partner, Blair, and I were flighted into the Championship division. Unfortunately, with a 73 on the first day, it would have taken a miracle to place in the prizes. And to remove any suspense, we did not place high enough to take home any hardware.

Before I talk about our round, I want to congratulate Rylan Young and Ryan Jardine who won the 18th Annual Sportspal 2 Person Challenge shooting 128 over two days (66 Best Ball on Saturday and 62 Scramble on Sunday) to claim the Championship and each take home a Sportspal Canoe. (Osprey Links)

Sportspal – 2 Man Challenge

The first of two rounds of the Sportspal golf tournament was completed yesterday. This is a highlight event at Osprey Links Golf Course and it is the first time I have entered. This two-day event pits 69 teams of two in a Best Ball and Scramble format. After the best ball round on the first day, the teams are flighted and assigned a hole for the scramble round going today. The Championship and A Flights will play from the blues while the rest of the field will play from the whites. I have not played in this format of golf tournament in a long time and the first day was very interesting. Continue reading

Day Three – Ontario Golf Regionals for the Military

Day Three of the Ontario Golf Regionals for the Military started of just great. For the third day in a row, it was a hot day with beautiful sunshine. Atypical for late September, we hit 29° C with very little wind. It was a bit hot for playing golf, but who is going to complain about a perfect day. As I stood on the first tee, I was mentally ready to play solid golf. So off we went! Continue reading

Day Two – Ontario Golf Regionals for the Military

Day Two did not go as planned. I had hoped to build on my great back 9 from Day One, however instead it was the best grinding round I shot in a long time. Nothing was smooth and I fought against all my natural instincts. I am not sure what happened between the two days, but after 8 bogeys and a double, I walked off the course with a satisfying 81!

The course set up was more difficult than the day before.  We used some tee boxes that were not part of the practice round, but that is how things go. I cannot control these things, so I play the course they set up. On Day Two, the course was playing about 250 yards longer. This does not see much, but considering I was struggling, this extra distance made my round more difficult. Continue reading

Day One – Ontario Golf Regionals for the Military

Day one of the Ontario Golf Regionals went as hoped. I played a strong round overall, but with mixed 9s. The course was set up to score and considering that it is late September, it is in fairly good shape. The only real challenge is the greens because they are playing slow and are a bit shaggy compared to earlier in the season. But we have to play the condition that is tournament golf. Continue reading
