Talking about the fundamentals of a golf swing is something that should never stop. I have produced many articles on this topic and yet, I still find something new each time I delve deeper into the swing details. Well, today is not different. Rick Shiels has produced another video that will help all levels of golfers improve our game. It is simple to understand and offers a foundation for our swing moving forward. I know it is helping me already.

If you are an experienced golfer, you may have slightly different processes that you have honed. However, it is important to remember that what Rick is talking about is the fundamentals. If we are doing those actions well, then our swing is on its way to being the best for our game.

I liked how Rick spent a great deal of time explaining the neutral grip. I feel that this is an overlooked skill and many players starting golf do not take the time to grip the club properly. It is a skill that affects all other aspects of our swing, so please take heed.

The grip, setup, and swing motion are the key components of any swing. Whether your are just starting or have played a long time, I recommend you take the time to ensure your fundamentals are solid. It is a sure fire way to lower your golf scores.

  1. My 6 hybrid is a little different from my other clubs. I assume it’s lie angle more than anything and it causes me to hit what looks like a dead push right if I grip it the same as I do the rest.

    A simple adjustment of how I grip the club with my lead hand solves that. It took awhile to figure out but now I just make the change automatically when I grab that club.

    Gotta brag a little. I took the win in tonight’s skins game and did it in style. I won nine skins. In the three years I’ve been playing with these guys, 5 skins is the best I or any of us have done. Until tonight. 17 GIR’s. I went just over the back on 9. The only hole I lost all night. I told the guys to keep their money, I just want the bragging rights.😂

      • Almost. I missed two putts inside 4 feet on the front 9. 😂 Both hurt. A great approach shot and a great chip blown not to mention those putts were to win the skins. Lol

        The putting kind of waited until later to dial in. I took 3 skins early. 1,2,3 because I came out firing and the guys didn’t . Then tied till 9 when I hit too much club. I hit a pretty good chip on but lost a skin there to a 20 foot putt for birdie banging into the hole by one of the guys

        But I really woke up on the back and took skins on 10, 11, 12, 13, 15, & 18.

        I cleared the trees (6 hybrid) and found the right direction on the blind shot cutting the corner on 10 and found the green. Missed the next par 4’s green by 3 feet. And striped a driver on our longest hole next and left myself a little wedge to the pin. I put on a little show. No bad swings all day. A real rarity I can’t explain or reproduce on demand. 🤷

        It sure is fun when it happens though.
