Often overlooked in the discussion as the greatest golfer of all time, Sam Snead is definitely high on the list. With 82 PGA Tour wins (tied with Tiger Woods for the most all time), which included 7 Majors, he is never really considered to be the GOAT. Major wins appears to be the benchmark, but that is a discussion for another day. What I found interesting about a tip from Snead is that it is simple, easy to replicate and produces results. Considering the prolific success of Snead, it might be something worth exploring.
Snead’s tip has to do with a forward press and waggle prior to starting his golf swing. He offers something different from the likes of Ben Hogan and Tiger Woods, but hey it might be something that works for your golf swing.
I personally do not use the forward press or the waggle, but I am not adverse to giving it a try this year. I think the whole idea is to incorporate these movements in your pre-shot routine in order to tell you body that it is time to swing your golf club.
I am sure that if you ask different swing experts, they would all have preferences on how to properly make consistent contact with our irons. There are some fundamental traits to all swings that are important, however it is equally important the we adopt and discard those swing movements that do not work for our game. It is a matter of experimenting with different swing movements and in order to develop our best swing. Using Snead’s forward press and waggle might work for your game, you never know until you give it a try.
I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
