Of course we all mark our golf ball so we can easily identify it when playing. We by our golf balls with the numbers 1 to 4….most of the time. I recently purchase a dozen golf balls with 5 to 8 for something different. During my friendly rounds, I do not care which number is on my golf ball. I ensure my ball has my special mark, but that is about it. However, when it comes to competitions, that is something completely different.

Hitting Into The Sun
Every golf has hit their ball into the sun, thus making it extremely difficult to watch your ball. When playing with partners, they make a strong effort to see your ball, however, if they do use the proper technique all is for not. I have tried so many different techniques that I was frustrated to point of giving up. I thought, I cannot see the ball anyway, so lets just play a game of poker and hope the best. Of course, this did not go over well with my playing partners, so I had to find a better way to track the ball in the sun. And I did!

In my neck of the woods, we anxiously waited for the arrival of the warm spring weather. It has arrived and many us are excited to spend more time outside in the fresh, warm, sunny temperatures. The last six weeks has seen many variations in the temperature, but we are now on the upward climb. If you are not aware, in Canada warm weather brings out a golf hazard that lasts about six weeks. Black flies and horse flies think of golfers as a buffet; no amount of bug spray seems to help…..it is a hazard we all must endure.

For those who may not be aware, my province initiated a stay at home order back in early April. Well, today they just announce the extension of that order until 2 June. This means no golf for another 19 days. Of course I am on the “golf is safe” side of the argument, but in this case my vote does not count. COVID has kick the stuffing out of many people and if my biggest worry is that I cannot golf for another 3 weeks, then my life is very blessed (and it is). Knowing what likes ahead, I was not surprised to receive an email from the GM of Osprey Links, Jeff Rogerson.

It is a challenge to measure the number of mistakes I make in a round. This might seem like a crazy statement, yet how do we actually tally the number of actually mistakes are made in a round. Do we include poorly hit shots that turn out okay? Do we only focus on the poor results? Does chipping 6 feet from the pin from just off the green count? You can see that developing a checklist of possibilities for the quality golf shots is virtually impossible. Yet, I still learn from my perceived mistakes in hopes that it improves my golf game.
