A hybrid is a very versatile club. Depending on your skill, it can be used for so many different situations that would extricate any golfer out of trouble. I have used my hybrid from 210 yards to 5 yards off the green. I have it out of long grass, short grass, cabbage, from the woods and out of the sand. There are so many uses for my hybrid that I sometimes forget there are other clubs in my bag. 😉 With all the uses of hybrids, I do believe that there is one shot that is often overlooked. But first, how to set up a hybrid.

The Golf Ball Experiment Is Over
Not to fly in the face of convention, but I realized that I have been spending more money on golf balls over my golf career than needed. I have tried a plethora of different balls and settled on Pro Vs for years. With the rise of prices on Pro Vs ($72 a dozen) I am finding it hard to justify spending that much money when there are other options with more value/performance on the market. So yesterday, I decided to conduct my own golf ball experiment. I am not surprised by results!

Style and versatility of golf shoes has change significantly over the years. So much so, that there is a science to select the proper shoe for your game. Over the years, I have tried many different golf shoes that have spikes and were spikeless. At this time, I have a few pairs of each, because I used them during different course conditions. My choice of shoe changed over the years, but comfort is now my main focus. This year I am going to use the Men’s Flex XP Spikeless from FootJoy (no affilation). They are like a running shoe and I think will provide the comfort and grip I require from a golf shoe. My requirements might not be the same as yours, so how do you choose between a spiked or spikeless golf shoe?

When hybrids were first introduced in 1998, they were touted as a specially club to help amateurs hit their ball out of tight lies. “The very first hybrid was the “Baffler.” Introduced by Cobra Golf in 1998, the actual design dates back to the 1970s. Designed to help players who struggled with irons, the Baffler quickly became popular with all levels of golfers. That popularity inspired TaylorMade to invent a line they call the “Rescue” clubs. Rescue clubs debuted in 2003 and today TaylorMade offers an entire line of hybrids.” (Westlakegc.com) Since their arrival some 30+ years ago, hybrids have grown in popularity to a point where the PGA players started using them in 2009. In modern golf, the hybrid is probably the most impactfully club introduced to the masses. Knowing this, unfortunately, does not help players hit this revolutionary club any easier. So, what is the secret to success?
Continue readingStarting My 2023 Golf Season Slowly
The warmer temperatures are here. The snow is quickly receding. It is time to break out the clubs and start swinging with earnest. The challenge most players who live in warmer climes have is starting too fast and injuring themselves. This exact scenario has happened to me in the past, but not this year. I am starting a few weeks earlier, indoors, in preparation of when the courses open (hopefully within the next three weeks). Yesterday, I took an hour to clean up my garage, set up my DIY net, swing 20 easy times, and hit 25 golf balls. As in years past, I only used my seven iron while focusing on turn and swing movements. It was a great day and I am excited to get ready for my 2023 golf season.
