Working Towards Serenity On The Golf Course

When I played golf in the past (actually back about 25 years), extreme bouts of frustration would follow me around the golf course. If I made a poor shot or at least one that I felt should have been better, I would allow my frustration to build until it erupted. I am not proud of this fact, but it is something I think most golfers experience during their journey. My frustration was very much an internal thing, but it would eat away at my ability to play to a point were I had to grind out every shot. Golf was beginning to lose its luster and I actually thought about hanging up my sticks. That is until I made a decision to change!

How Quickly Things Change On The Golf Course

Like the weather this time of year, our fortunes on the golf course can change in a blink of an eye. A poor or lucky bounce can turn a birdie into an other with no remorse. This unknown factor is just one reason I love golf. An this is the reason why I am excited to play my first round of 2022 tomorrow at Osprey Links Golf Course.

The surprise of being able to play came quick. I was anticipating no playing until May, but the course has dried up enough to play the back nine. My mindset of waiting to play golf this year did a 180° about turn to get ready time is short. Of course, I have been anticipating this announcement for weeks and my equipment is clean and ready to go. It is going to be a great day on many levels.

This is what my second shot of 2022 will look like!

For tomorrow, I have zero expectations. Hitting the links is all about reconnecting with my friends, playing golf, and enjoying the moment. The score is irrelevant as I likely will only play 9 holes (that is a game day decision). Regardless, my 2022 golf season is starting I am a truly grateful I can play another year.

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!

When Is It Ever Going To Stop!

Good Morning grateful golfers! I hope you having a terrific Tuesday. Being 27 April, I did not think I would wake up to this:

I understand that Mother Nature has a sense of humour, but come on! Golf season cannot start with the white stuff still falling!

Regardless, I am going to improve my 3 foot space today. As well, I am going to embrace the joys of what this terrific Tuesday has to bring. I wish you all well and if nothing else, have a grateful day!

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!

Stop With The Golf Comparisons

It seems that every time a player has a hot streak, it is incumbent on golf pundits to make comparisons about their future play. Like a fly drawn to a bug sapper, it is a compulsion that drives needless scuttlebutt about the golfing world. Personally, I applaud players like Scottie Scheffeler and Cameron Smith who are burning up the 2022 golf season. Their current great play does not in any way set the foundation for forecasting their play over the next three years. Their play right now is fantastic and they will ride the wave of success. But starting to compare them the proven greats is a bit premature.

What?! Another Great Putt!

If you ever wondered where you should focus you practice time…..well, Cameron Smith has shown the golfing world the right course of action. If you track your putting and you are in the mid or higher 30s for the number of putts during a round, then maybe Smith has something to say. After his performance during this years Players, putting is the greatest equalizer in golf!

Putting is the great equalizer or in the case of The Players, the dominant stroke. I was amazed by how Smith made clutch putt after clutch putt. His performance actually makes me want to practice my putting more than I already do!

If we learned nothing else, putting is so important….nope, critical to low golf scores. I knew how important it was to my past success, however Cameron Smith set a new standard for all golfers to aspire. So, this year, my practice will incorporate more time on the putting green. How about you?

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
