Playing Golf in the Wind

“When it’s breezy, swing easy”! Yesterday was a test of my ability to play golf in the wind. If you are not used to shooting your best golf in windy conditions, then my round was not for you. Although the sun was shining, the 30-35 kph breeze lowered the temperature a fair bit. Not to worry, I was dressed in layers and was completely prepared.

I can honestly admit that my knowledge and skill is not where I need it when playing in a strong wind. Other than just playing, it is something that I tolerate and do not practice. Recently, I stumbled across this article on Twitter by Real Golf Irish  and I thought it was well worth sharing.

Risk Reward on the Golf Course

Golf is all about Risk Reward. During every shot, we weigh the advantages and disadvantages of which club to use, the weather, the lie and the possible outcome. This is an exciting aspect of golf that never gets boring.

Do You Wear a Golf Glove?

I do not wear a golf glove. I wore one about 25 years ago, but broke the habit of and cannot remember why. It is not necessarily a bad thing, but the more I look around the golf course, the more I see that I am in the minority.

Using My Favorite Wedge to Lower My Golf Score

I have discussed effectively using my wedges in may posts. However, I am in a bit of a quandary lately, all the wedges are working just great. I have 4 options in my bag every time I chip from within 25 yards of the green. I realize that the situation, location around the green, pin location and hazards will play in my decision. However, if I have a straight shot to the green with no sand traps or hazards in the way, I can choose any of my wedges to execute a successful shot. Continue reading →

Hitting the Long Ball in Golf

Golf has morphed into a game where hitting the long ball is key to winning. Amateurs are always in search of the holy grail of distance, but I am not sure any of us have the natural ability to consistently smash the all like Dustin Johnson or Jason Day. I will suggest, however, that amateurs like myself have benefited from the advances in technology to add distance to our game. Continue reading →
