I am always searching for tips on how to hit my irons. This is the weakest part of my game and as such, I routinely try to maintain or refine what aspects of these swings I do well. Additionally, I try to shed the poor habits, but it takes work and focus to determine what to keep and what to drop. How To Shut Out White Noise On The Golf Course…..The Easy Way
Every golfer has battled against white noise when on the links. You know, those intrusive thoughts, sounds or actions of the normal happenings when playing. In some cases, when the pressure is turned up, the white noise is a massive distraction. It becomes so invasive that I have a challenge staying focused enough to make a stroke. White noise is a score killer, but than goodness I have developed a sure fire way to eliminate these distractions in one easy step. Every golfer hits a poor golf shot. I know that I have hit my fair share that may or may not be considered my fault. Interestingly, this view of my performance has changed over the years such that I own my poor shots and focus less on the conditions or other factors. Yup, if I attempted to hit the ball, the results have to accepted as my best attempt at that time. This mental acceptance is difficult sometimes, but it does allow for lower golf scores over the course of any round.

There is one drill by Rick Shiels espouses that will help many players consistently break 90. This specific drill is one that I have used for years and have taught to many of my friends. I believe this drill should be in every golfers bag and knowing how and when to employ it is definitely a stroke saver.

Today Rick and I play in the Senior Scramble at Osprey Links. With both of us being over 55, we qualify to the event. Actually, this is our second year in a row where we get to pit or skills against the rest of the pack. Last year we were in the prizes, so we are hoping that this year we will be able to repeat our previous success. As always, there is a strategy to playing in these types of events and this year we are going to try something new.
