Is there a standard method to hit a hybrid that every players should know? That question haunted me for some time until I realized that hitting hybrids is easier than I thought. Many poor hybrid shots are rooted in poor setup positions such as ball position and shoulder position. Unlike woods, the ball position prior to starting is more important than with most other clubs. Each player will be slightly different with their set up, but in my case I was playing the ball to far forward. To determine if your ball is in the proper position for your swing, the ball flight is the greatest tell. Knowing what to look for is critical to ensuring solid contact and consistent results with our hybrids.

Confidence in golf is very important. Understanding that any aspects of our golf game could go off the rails at any time, it is important to stay confident regardless of how well we play. Using the old adage ‘fake it till you make it’ sometimes is the only approach to help keep our game afloat. I have experienced poor play and could not get out of my funk in the short term. The only thing I had in my back pocket was to will my game in to success! I have had to fake it till I made it many times and will likely have to do that in the future as well. But, what exactly does this mean?
Continue readingLittle Drummer Boy Revisited Again
I love the Christmas season. It is a little quieter this year, but it does not quell my joy of the holiday season. The winter wonderland, the sharing of happiness and joy, and spending time with the special people in my life. Although there is no golf, I will take the time to enjoy some outdoor activities, visiting, and being grateful. For me, it is also the time to give back to the community and to share some of my good fortune by donating to charities, the food bank, and just smiling at those I might encounter. The spirit of Christmas is all around us and I for one am happy to embrace it.
As part of my holiday traditions, I watch the Little Drummer Boy and post it on my golf blog. It does not seem like much, but this video is one of my all time favorites and I like to share its joy with you the readers!
In case you did not notice, I love his mittens!
The Christmas season is a special time and I hope you take the opportunity to take the time and enjoy your family and friends. Although golf is on the back burner, I still am trying to figure out a way to keep swinging. I have a plan now and expect to execute it very soon. This was a bit of a repost from previous years with a few minor changes; but worth the look.

Assuming In Golf Is A Bad Thing?
For all the amateurs out there, it is time to stop assuming and start knowing about your golf game. That is right, you are your own worse enemy because you think you can hit shots (even basic ones) far more consistently than you actually can and it is hurting your golf score. Okay, my opening was a little harsh for a golf blog that tries to stay positive, but I needed to get your attention. My point about assuming is entirely true and I have fallen into that pitfall myself many a time. As we develop our game, there are the knowns and unknows about our game. Unfortunately amateurs like myself often confuse the two which leads to miss shots, poor decisions, and higher golf scores. All because we assume we know what we are doing when in fact we are walking a tight rope of success.
Continue readingReceiving The Gift Of Golf
Over the weekend, I was given the opportunity to receive two sets of left handed junior clubs. My wife was looking a local Facebook group and a generous person was giving away the clubs. I jumped on the opportunity because I am planning organize a local junior day or camp in 2023. The challenge is finding a good practice area that will allow for all aspects of learning, but that is a challenge for another day. For now, I am so grateful that the previous owner graciously offered up the clubs because it helps to flush out my other clubs have in my inventory.
The left handed junior sets are kind of rare. When I was offered the two sets….for free….I jumped at the chance to add them to my collection. I am looking forward to using them this summer. Hopefully, I can set something else.

How lucky am I that someone offered to give me two sets of clubs so I can pay it forward. It is important that I share my good fortune by trying to introduce golf to some young athletes. Who knows, there might be a grateful golfer in the group.
With the holiday season upon us, I am grateful for the new to me clubs and look forward to using them this summer.
