Watching the opening holes of the 2021 PGA Championship at was exciting and somewhat mind boggling. As the announcers second guess many of the opening tee shots, I have to agree that shot selection was a bit suspect at best for many of the big hitters. I am not sure what the players thought process was because many of them hit driver ended up their ball into the deep rough or hazard. Normally, I would say that this not really a big deal except a 3 wood sounded like the right play. Especially on the first hole of the second Major of the year.

Being the only province/state in North America that does not allow golf, players frustration is at an all time high. The efforts of many in the industry to convince the powers to be have fallen on deaf ears. As I try to remain grateful about not looping the links during absolutely gorgeous weather, a positive sign of the things to come are slipping through the cracks. The Ontario Government has indicated that green spaces may be open sooner than later and that this lockdown is likely to be the last. All of these rumblings and rumours are a positive sign for any golfer.

I recently purchase a dozen golf balls with 5 to 8 for something different. During my friendly rounds, I do not care which number is on my golf ball. I ensure my ball has my special mark, but that is about it. However, when it comes to competitions, that is something completely different.

Golf is an evolutionary journey. Rarely does a persons game remain stagnant because each day offers something new that grabs our attention. Whether we do feel as physically capable or we mentally are tired, we need to make adjustments to our golf game on a daily basis. How about those days where we make an intended change; how does that affect our golf game. I have talked about the domino effect in previous posts and that is important to understand. However, when we make a change to our course management, does that add additional pressure to another, seemingly unintentional, aspect of our game?

Do you take the time to warm up before you round of golf? Or do you arrive moments before your tee time and rush to the first tee? I can honestly say that I have taken my time and hurried before a round of golf. I will point out that for competitions, I arrive at least one hour before my round and go through a very focused warm up routine. After watching some professional golfers warm up, I feel that my routine is the right one for my game. In case there is any doubt, warming up is very important to playing my best golf.
