It is official! Yesterday, Osprey Links has pulled their pins for the last time in 2020. After 155 days and thousands of rounds, Jeff Rogerson (GM/DM) decided to put an end to this tumultuous season. It was a great year considering the many COVID restrictions and I am already looking forward to next year.

Yesterday, I wrote an article self-analyzing my 2020 golf season. Overall, my play was very good and stopped short about how to improve my golf experiences in 2021. Considering all the negative factors due to COVID-19, I would rate my golfing experience as well above average. The team at Osprey Links Golf Course were innovative, responsive, and courteous through the trying times and as a result had a very positive impact on how I felt about playing golf last season.

At the end of every year, I like to sit back, pour a libation and ponder about my previous season. This introspection allows me to develop areas of improvement in my swing, course management, and improving my golfing experience. The 2020 golf season was very unique, excluding COVID, because I tracked more stats than ever before. Thus I have some concrete data in which to base my 2021 plan. Additionally, my self analysis helps me understand if my previous plan worked and were I might improve my processes to attain my ultimate goal of being a scratch golfer.

Practicing our golf swing by hitting balls is fundamental to building a strong foundation. In very short time, I can pound out 25 or a 50 balls and still be able to play a round of golf. But, those balls (pre-round) are more of a warm up and not really designed to improve my game. When practicing, I take a more cerebral approach than just banging out golf balls.

Many of golf’s traditions are rooted in historical norms of society. Many older traditionalists cling to ideas rooted in gender biases that just don’t fit the evolving world. Although much has happened to drag our views of golf into the 21st century, there are still some hold out ideals that need to change. The inspiration for my article today is rooted in a CBC news article that outlines a gender disparity regarding the number of holes played during a competition of young men and women of the same age group.
