Are You Playing Golf Today?

Are you playing golf today? It is a very simple question that does not require much thought. However, let me ask this question again? Are you playing golf today?

The physical act of going to the golf course quickly answers this question with a resounding yes! You make your way to the links, pull out your clubs, hit the ball between 60 and 120 times, pack up your clubs and then go home. So, yes you played golf today. However, is that the real meaning of this question? Continue reading

Playing Golf With One Club

This morning I was fortunate to wake up early and see that the forecast for rain did not materialize. After hopping out of bed, in the dark, I decided to hit the links for a quick round. I did not play all week, so I took this opportunity to get out and play some golf.

Arriving at the course, I quickly unpacked my clubs and anticipated being the only player on the course for quite a while. As I set up my push cart, my friend Geary pulled up and we quickly agreed to play together. As we walked towards the first tee, I noticed that Geary only had one club in his hand; his 9-iron! And then our conversation started! Continue reading

Olympic Golf Women’s Individual Stroke Play – Day 2

Day 2 of the Women’s Individual Stroke Play is finished and what a day it was! The leader board is somewhat as expected, but the number of low scores on day 2 is a bit surprising.

Players rocketed up the leaderboard; the biggest movers being the in 2nd place, Stacy Lewis, USA, with a 63 and in 3rd place Brooke Henderson, Canada, with a 64. There were 2 – 65s, a handful of 66s and many other players were under par. The course at Rio seemed to play easier today or maybe the players are starting to figure out how to score on the newly built Olympic Golf Course. Continue reading

Olympic Golf – It is the Women’s Turn

Rio 2016 Olympics - http://rio2016.com/enAfter all the talk, discussion, and lamenting about Olympic Golf, I am happy to say that the women have taken to the course in search of a gold medal! Many of the world’s top female players are in Rio and did not waver in their decision to represent their country. Regardless of where you stand, I am happy to see Canadians taking to the links as they vie for a gold medal.

Osprey Links 3 Man Scramble – Results

As you will remember, Geary, Blair and I entered a 3 man scramble last Sunday at Osprey Links Golf Course. Jeff Rogerson, the club pro and general manager, organized a great event with the support of his awesome team. To top off the great golf, Jeff’s team provided a fantastic roast beef meal with all the fixings. It was a perfect way to end our time on the links.

Geary, Blair and I had never played together as a group, yet our individual strengths made us a good team on paper. So we embarked on a journey into the unknown, fun and excitement. The rules were fairly straight forward and not uncommon for a scramble tournament. We all arrived early, entered the skins competition, and prepared for a fun round on the links. There was 38 teams in this event with two teams starting off each hole and one par 5 had four teams. The day remained overcast with little wind and no rain.
