The Benefits of a Golf Club Fitting

DSCF4828

Numbers from my club fitting.

Last fall I was fitted for my new Titleist AP2 irons and 915D, 915F, 915H. It was an awesome experience and the quality of my ball striking improved significantly once I received the right equipment. I can hardly wait for spring and to start-up where I left of last fall. The whole experience was very rewarding and I recommended it to the readers of this golf blog.

Understanding the entire fitting process is important to meet your expectations. There are many other ways to improve your game, however having the proper equipment is the most fundamental. Many amateurs, myself included before last fall, purchase equipment ‘off the rack’. It provides a 70% solution for most amateurs, but for the more avid player, buying ‘off the rack’ may not be the best solution to finding the proper equipment for their game. Continue reading

Practice Golf The Way You Play

3-6-9 Chipping Drill

3-6-9 Chipping Drill

Focused practice is nothing new at The Grateful Golfer blog. This extremely important topic has cropped up and never seems to lose its importance or relevancy to playing great golf. As I think of the many tips on this topic, I started to wonder if these perils of wisdom actually help the average player.

I am strong believer in the 3-6-9 drill for putting and chipping. I believe they offer the biggest return on your most precious investment: time. This and other drills will make us a better player and lower your golf scores, if we practice. However, after some thought, there is one aspect of focused putting that seems to be overlooked by most amateurs and teachers. Continue reading

My ZEN in Golf

Inner CalmOver the years I have matured and accepted that I can only control certain things on the golf course. It is very challenging for my ego to realize that at any given time, my plan for a great game can come of the rails. Conversely, my game can quickly turn around and exceed all my expectations, but I never seem to know when.

I sometimes wonder what is the key factor to feeling my ZEN throughout my entire round. Keeping my cool and remaining calm is extremely important to low scores. Yet as I think about the positive aspects of my ZEN, I cannot help but wonder if there is more to the “Jason Dufner” calm on the golf course?

The Mental Side of Golf

glimmer is hopeA couple of posts ago, I asked for some help from The Grateful Golfer Community and I am happy to say, that I received some great responses. So much so, I thought they were worth sharing with everyone.

These great response did get my mental juices going and I feel better prepared for spring. As we all know, the mental side of golf is just as important as your physical prowess. Participating in a sport generally means competition, not always, but more likely than not. Golf is especially competitive either against someone or yourself; the intent is always to shoot our lowest score ever. The following are the tips I received and what they mean to me. Golf Ball Position With The Driver

Golf Ball position is very important to consistent golf. There are many theories about ball position and given dichotomy of these theories, it can be difficult to determine which is best for you. At the end of last season, I struggled off the tee with my driver and I attribute it to my ball position.

I know all the theories and I tried most of them, but nothing seemed to work! I am not sure if it was a mental block or what, however I think I made a break through tonight at my indoor golf league!
