Driving The Golf Ball Saves My Game

To be a consistent golfer who shoots relatively low scores, certain aspects of their shines above the others. In my case, being in play off the tee (which includes the fairway and first cut) is a key component to my game. I have total confidence in my driver because time and time again it has set my round up for success. My skill off the tee is not a fluke, but something that I have honed over the years. Fortunately, I have found three things that works for my game when teeing it up that has led to lower scores and consistent golf.

How To Hit Your Longest Drive Yet!

Most of my fellow golfers have walked the path to trying to hit their driver longer. Some were successful and others….well, not so much. I have recently started re-walking this path and I have found some success that makes me think that I need to continue heading in this direction. As I mentioned in past articles, (yes, the saga continues) I found that I am consistently hitting the ball between 7 and 10 yards farther than normal. Yes, this is very precise, but I have been measuring my drives with my Garmin S80 and gathering the data I need to make this claim. So, the real question is how did I do it and how can you?

Driving The Ball With Success

Distance versus accuracy with the driver is much like a chicken and the egg dilemma. Which is more important? Which should we focus on first? The short answer is yes to both. However, reality dictates that depending on the results required, producing that specific drive can be a challenge. Interestingly, a minor change to our setup can produce a drive that meets the situation. It is very simple to accomplish and does not require a swing change. It is all in the setup!

Hitting Long Drives

Each player has a slightly different swing and this causes challenges to come up with a definitive way to hit long drives. I realize that there is a foundation for the proper swing and I think I found a video that offers a step by step process for hitting the long ball. When I watched it, I felt that as a single digit handicapper it fit my swing more than most, so I thought it was worth talking about.

Three Driver Faults That Limit Your Distance

If you are a golfer who struggles with your driver, I know I do from time to time, it could be because you are hitting the ball too low on the clubface. I know this swing fault is something that I worked on for years. Over the past two years, I tried to force a swing change by adjusting my ball position and tilting my shoulders more on setup. All my adjustments did was create more swing challenges and poor driver contact. I went back to my old swing and realized that I was approaching my desire to improve distance off the tee all wrong. Thus, as I stated in previous articles, I reverted back to what was working and concentrated on improving what was already working. What I realized is that I was creating the conditions to hit the ball low on my driver face. I fixed my challenges on my own, but I wish I had some guidance from Christina Ricci sooner.
