Motivated to Write About Golf

Being Grateful

I am a Grateful Golfer!

This will be my 675 article since starting The Grateful Golfer in May of 2012. I have at least doubled my viewership every year. I never thought I would have 5 followers, let alone almost 1600. Things have evolved over the years and I can truly say that I feel that I am a better writer now, than 3 years ago. So why am I telling you this?

  • It is not to brag!
  • It is not to boost my ego!
  • It is not to plea for more regular followers!
  • Nor is it to suggest that for some reason I am an expert about anything golf!

I bring this up to say THANK YOU! Thank you to all the people who took the time to comment, like, dislike, correct, advise or just show support! There are many things we cannot control in the world, but how we treat and interact with people is something we definitely can control. I honestly can say that the people I have had the honour to meet via The Grateful Golfer have been awesome.

Through this entire journey, which has only just began, I have interacted with some awesome golfing fanatics who share my passion for this crazy, frustrating, challenging, and awesome game. If I started to list those who actively comment on my musings, I am sure I would miss someone and that would just not be fair. You know who you are because we talk – sometimes often, sometimes not – but we talk.

There is one person who I need to mention. He my closest friend and has been there through all the tough and good times. We share a passion for golf and he knows how to bring out the best in my game! Thanks, Kirk! By the way, how is the duck?

Over the past few years, I believe The Grateful Golfer blog has helped me overcome many challenges in my life. It has provided and outlet express my feelings and views about the world through a sport that has provided many awesome memories. If you are reading this article, then you are part of those memories and for that I am grateful!

So, as the Christmas season unfolds and the New Year approaches, I am motivated to write about golf. I am not sure where this journey is going to take me, but I am sure it will include many awesome people, fantastic locations, and an opportunity to enrich my life and those around me!

Thank you to everyone for your support and kindness.

2014 Was a Grateful Year!

2014 was a fantastic year for golf. As the year progressed, I was fortunate to expand my golfing friends through social media. By taking a step into the 21st century, I was introduced to a whole new world of golfing enthusiasts who share the same affliction for this wonderful sport.

2014 marked some milestones for The Grateful Golfer. I was able to lower my handicap to its lowest point ever! I played many great courses that included one of Canada’s most famous – Glen Abby. And I was able to play 80 plus rounds with great friends! It was definitely a great year!

The Grateful Golfer blog expanded exponentially this year. I was able to post 199 articles on my blog and an additional 45 articles at PunditArena.com. This may seem to be robust, but when you are writing about something you really like, it is very easy to put pen to paper.

I was pleasantly surprised by all the positive feedback I received. Many of these great comments helped me shape many of the articles. They also helped focus my golf game when hitting the links. While writing articles about my golf experiences, I never really wondered if they were hitting the mark. But, it seems that some were helpful because the top 10 articles garnered about 30 percent of my blog traffic. Here are the top 10:

  1. Which Golf Grip is Best for You?
  2. A Growth Mindset About Golf
  3. Why 14 Clubs
  4. 5 Wood or Extra Wedge
  5. How Wide Should Your Stance Be
  6. Quiet Hands to Break 100
  7. Swing Plane Training
  8. What’s Wrong With Phil Mickelson
  9. Scramble or Best Ball Golf Tournament
  10. New World Number One

As I reminisce about 2014, I become invigorated for what is to come! 2015 is going to be a great year for all things golf.

My goals for golf in 2015 are pretty basic. Continue to share my thoughts, experiences and tips about golf on The Grateful Golfer. To continue the positive interaction between other golfing fanatics. And to complete my goal of being a scratch golfer!

Well, it all starts today! I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!

Does Golf Motivate You?

Does Golf Motivate You?

Does Golf Motivate You?

Does golf motivate you? Are you inspired to work on your game? Does golf fuel your desire to exercise more or differently? Does golf inspire you to learn more about the fundamentals, tips, and drills? These are all great questions. If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, then consider yourself motivated by golf!

One reason for these questions is rooted in a fellow blogger’s golfing adventure. Josh, from Golf is Mental is hitting the road for 3 months. He has plans to seek and conquer all of the golf courses that he can in his allotted time. With his trusty sidekick (wife), they are going to experience what most of us dream to do. They are motivated golfers for sure.

The Silicon Valley Golfer talks about his adventures to improve his golf game. He talks about how he modifies drills to meet his training needs. He explains how he is a student of golf and hopes to continue to lower his score. He is motivated to become a better golfer!

Tiger Golf Traveller is another great blogger. He talks about many courses, and I especially like his course reviews. They are very detailed and help me imagine what it would be like to play the courses he plays. He is motivated to share his experience with those of us who are golf-less for about 5 months of the year.

All About Golf is a fun blog to follow. Brian is always up for a discussion about golf. His views are insightful and he is not afraid to call it as he sees it! Our conversations motivate me to keep learning and talking about the sport we love.

Personally, I am a pretty motivated golfer. Golf is rewarding, frustrating, exhilarating, and puzzling all at the same time. I enjoy competing against others, but mostly I enjoy competing against myself! I find golf very relaxing and it gives me time to think about life.

The best thing about golf is all the like-minded friends I continue to meet. Golf is but a vehicle to enjoy life, meet people, and share fun experiences. That is motivation enough for me!
