Living in the country, there are no opportunities to shop for golf stuff unless I drive about 3.5 hours. This limitation is okay because when I do make it to the golf store, I spend a great deal of time window shopping for something that I need (or want 😉 ). In the meantime, I try to shop online for all my golfing needs and in the past the experience was quite rewarding. Unfortunately, this year is far less productive or rewarding. I went online to my usual places and was not enticed to open my wallet…..I wonder if I am missing something?

My 2021 Golf Season Is Over
I have decided to put my clubs away for the year! We still have some great weather, but it is time to transition to other activities and start getting ready for winter. This process does take a bit of time because I have to ‘winterize’ my stuff in order to protect it from the blustery days ahead. So, my slow transition of cleaning and storing my golf equipment has begun. My first step was to empty my golf locker (my car); I did not realize how much stuff I actually had squirrelled away. I spend a bit of time each year thinking about whether I have the proper equipment in my golf bag. As I age, my swing, physical conditioning, and flexibility vary more frequently than in the past. This is not a bad thing (sort of), but the nature of any player who is entering the latter part of their golfing career. At this time, I use stiff shaft golf clubs because my swing speed is at the low end of where stiff shafts are recommended by professional golf fitters. I am comfortable with my choice because I currently hit the ball straight and reasonably long. However, this does not stop me from examining my equipment every spring as I prepare for the upcoming season.

I like finding as much golf value for the buck as I can. I hunt for deals and try to stretch my money as far as possible. I think that most golfers are like me and spend their money at many golf stores other than at their local golf course. Over the years, I learned that if I take the time to talk the pro at my local proshop, I make an equal or better deal than I can anywhere else. In those cases, I save money and have instant access to the equipment I am trying to buy. Not only do I save money, but I am supporting my local golf course and that is just smart!
Continue readingAnalyzing Golf Club Use
If you are like most players, you carry at least 14 clubs. I say this with tongue in cheek because during friendly matches, I have watched players carry a few more than the legal number. Regardless of other players do, I only carry 14 clubs unless I am experimenting; then I do not record this round for my handicap. Anyway, every few years I analyze the clubs I carry to ensure that I have the proper equipment to match my every evolving game. Well, 2021 is the season where I take an important and critical look at how often (and where) I use my clubs. In the past, this process lead me to replace my 5 wood with a 60° lob wedge. It is not time to see if my changes are still valid or do I need to make another adjustment.
