Mid Season Break from Golf

Being Grateful

Grateful for Golf!

Have you ever decided that a week or two off in the middle of your golf season would be good for your game? Depending on how much you play, a rest from the sticks might just improve your outlook on how you play. I am sure there are many articles about the psychology of letting our brains focus on things other than golf, but I have never really been convinced.

If you find yourself dragged out and not enjoying your rounds, then a rest is a great idea. Because our season is so short in Canada, I have never really taken a conscious break from the game, life usually does that for me.

The last time I hit the links was 2 weeks ago on Tuesday. Yup, almost 14 days. Additionally, I have started my holidays and it looks like another 10-12 days before I loop the course. Unfortunately, I was sick a couple of weeks ago and it last a good 7 days. I rarely get sick, but in this case I was off work and laid up waiting for my sickness to pass. That was the start of my time away from the links.

After healing, work got in the way and now I am on vacation with my wife. I expected to take the 2 weeks off for our vacation because of our plans, but the two weeks prior was a surprise. So after all that is said and done, I will be away from the links for quite some time during peak golfing weather.

The funny thing is, is that I am not concerned about it at all. I think that I will be refreshed and ready to get back into the swing of things when it is time. I am blessed with the opportunity to golf often and a doubly blessed to have an understanding wife!

So, my mid-season break is a bit longer than normal this year. I do miss hitting the links with my friends, but they will be there when I get back. Overall, life is fantastic and I am truly grateful!

Tomorrow Golf Season Starts!

For the past 5 months, this how I have felt about not being able to play golf!

This his how I will feel tomorrow walking to the first tee!

Have an awesome 2015 golf season!

Have fun and keep your golf attitude factor or GAF high!

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links…..tomorrow!

Golf Season Is Almost Here!

I can hardly wait! Golf season is just around the corner.

In keeping with the weather theme mentioned by Rick at mindbodygolf, I thought I would show you can what happen at my course in the space of 30 days…..

We go from this.

Golf Season is on its Way!

DSCF7212I figure there is 30 days left before I hit the golf course. We still have 3 feet of snow on the ground, but the warm weather is on its way. Normally, I expect golf season to start on 15 April, but this year I am predicting I will be swing my clubs a week earlier.

In the meantime, I have some things to do. I have mentioned before about my yearly traditions and I plan to do those over the next 30 days. The most important tradition is to read the rule book. I think this is critical for my goal to compete more this year. Additionally, I will see if there are any new rule interpretations that are coming in play this year.

I will get my equipment out and give it a very good cleaning. I think it is important to focus on my grips. A good cleaning early in the season will help them last the season.

Lastly, I will check to see what needs to be replaced. I know many of you have done this already, but with 30 days left, it is time to prepare.

I am excited that golf season is around the corner, all I have to do is continue to be patient, train, and focus on the positive aspects of my 2015 golf season!

What are you doing to get ready for 2015?

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!

The Blanket of Snow Ends Golf For the Year

All my hopes of sneaking out for one last round is officially over for another year. As the weather started its slow march towards zero, we golfing fanatics always kept that glimmer of hope for a warm front one last time! Well, that pipe dream is in the books for another year.

As I lazily got out of bed this morning, the sun was shining, the air was crisp and as I looked out the window…GASP! A light snowfall had covered the ground!

Snow is Finally Here!

Out My Back Window. First snow of the winter.

As I slowly recover from the shock, my thoughts will eventually turn towards the off-season. I have written about preparing for the off-season before and will likely build on my previous successes. For now, I will lament over the cold days to come and dream of the warm days to come.

In the near future, I will focus on my new training goals for the off-season and my expectations for 2015. For now, it is time to grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the day!

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
