Every golf I know has played a golf shot from long, thick grass. It is the nature of golf courses to leave certain areas long and unruly in order to add some degree of difficulty to the playing area. Many times hitting out of this tough location I felt that just making it to the fairway was a blessing. In order to limit the number of stroke added to my scorecard it is important to take our medicine and not try to compound our mistake by trying to hit the ball too far down the fairway. It can be a challenge to keep our ego in check, but from a course strategy standpoint ensuring our next shot is played from the short grass is key. Once we understand what we need to do with a shot out of long grass, the next thought is how we actually accomplish this task. This aspect of the overall golf shot may be easier than you think.

What Is Fun On The Golf Course?
The definition of fun is completely different for each golfer. Some find hitting the ball a country mile their jam. Others like the delicate nature of a great short game. And others find the social aspect of playing golf to their liking. There really is no wrong answer except if you are not having a good time or feel frustrated the entire time you are on the links. If this is the case, it might be time to reevaluate the reason you spend 4 to 6 hours looping a golf course. For me it is very simple and my reason transcends all others.
Continue readingDoing Golf Polls For Fun
I recently reintroduced golf polls on X (Twitter). I try to ask questions that will get some conversation going. Sometimes I am successful. Others, well not so much. My last few have been okay and if you are looking to answer some fun golf questions, come on over to X and subscribe to my feed. As an indication of what I am asking here is my current and last two polls.
Continue readingWhat Is Your Best Golf?
I wonder what playing our best golf really means? We all have our best score and likely can recount each stroke. However, is that really our best golf? If we only look at the score, then yes it is! However, I have shot scores that were four or 5 over par that would rival my lowest score! Grinding out a decent score through consistent focused golf is also considered to be our best golf. How many rounds have we played where we smoothly shot a very decent score and yet was the best golf we could play on that day! Do you see where I am going?
Continue readingBeing Patient While Waiting For Golf Season
Unlike my friends to the south, I am patiently waiting for the temperatures to warm up! At a brisk minus 16° C (3° F) this morning, my patience is being tested to the max. This time of year is always the worst and I do find it challenging to stay focused on upcoming golf season. Our long winter’s nap is almost over, but the days before I can get outside to swing my clubs seems to be dragging. This happens every year and I go through the same doldrums as in the past. Before suggesting I take a trip, that is not in the cards. So, I will dig deep, focus my attention on things I like to do and patiently wait for golf season to arrive at a snail’s pace.

As you can see, we still have a ways to go before I can dig out the clubs. The last 30 days is always the hardest.
In the meantime, I will remain grateful for the blessings in my life.
To remain positive, here is my golf thought for today:

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
