Every golfer knows the highs and lows of playing golf. Regardless of their ability, excitement and disappointment is attached to every shot. It is that one sport where you are in total control of your results and wearing your emotions on your sleeve can be helpful or a detraction. I certainly have felt elation and despair during my many rounds. I am not sure I can control the situations, but I sure can control my reaction to the extreme during events. As amateurs develop their game, controlling our responses to the peaks and valleys of golf is one aspect of becoming a better golfer.

Taking Aim On A Par Three
Many golfers struggle with where to aim on a par three. I am not talking about the 200 yard monster that challenges many aspects of our game, but 135 yard hole that is in the wheel house of most golfers. For my game, this distance is a smooth 9 iron. Given the shorter distance, one would think that hitting the ball close would be a no brainer. However, more often than not, golfers tend to miss the green or leave themselves a very long putt. I often wondered about this and I think I have the answer.
Continue readingDo You Have A ‘Go To’ Golf Club?
I carry 14 golf clubs. I use everyone over the course a couple rounds and do not shy away for any of them. If I did not use one because I had zero confidence in it, I would take it out of my bag. No sense lugging it around for no reason. Knowing that all my clubs have an impact to my score, I do practice using them all when I hit the range. Knowing that my game relies on all my clubs, it does not mean that I do not have a favourite. My ‘go to’ club that rarely fails me regardless of the shot. My confidence in this club is higher than all the rest and as a result, when things get challenging, out it comes.

There is little doubt that every golfer will find themselves out of position during their round of golf. In some cases, players will have to hit their ball over an obstacle in order to land their ball close to the pin. A majority of the time it will be a bunker, but a water hazard, plants or rocks can cause the same distress on their close approach shot. Regardless, it is important to understand that the lofted shot over something is a something every golfer should have in their bag. There are a plethora of methods to successfully execute a chip over a bunker and I am going to present a simple, repeatable shot that every golfer can emulate.
Continue readingWeight Distribution During Your Golf Swing
One of my earliest challenges with my golf swing was to understand weight distribution. I tried to keep everything in the neutral position because I thought this balanced position was the key to hitting the ball straight. After realizing that this was not the case, I transition to making a slight weight transition from the inside of my trail leg to the inside of my lead leg. This help a bit with my swing, but I found that I was still not maximizing my distance potential. Now, I have a bit more of a weight shift (distribution) in my swing, but do not think it is enough to really hit the ball a long way. It is important to note that depending on the club we are hitting, the weight distribution will change. Talk about a challenging subject when we do not have the fundamental details to what is considered successful. If you are wondering where your swing weight shift stands then there is video below that explains everything.
