Making Solid Iron Contact

This article is a follow on from a previous article called Making Solid Contact With Irons. The reason for revisiting this very important topic is because I spent many years chasing the proper ball position to set up great iron contact. It is an important skill that all amateurs should know and hone. It will save a great deal of frustration by knowing and understanding where to contact the ball with your irons.

The Science of Putting: Work, Energy, and Power

I bet you are wondering how your putt is affected by physics. Work, energy, and power are the core concepts used to determine the physics behind a putting stroke. I am not really sure if all of this information will help you become an better putter, but I found it very interesting. So, for all you science geeks out there, this is for you:

There are many aspects to putting that require our attention and the physics, perhaps, does not garner any focus. If you are a student of the game, then this knowledge might be of use. Regardless, putting is vital to lower golf scores, therefore I suggest you spend some practice time with the flat stick.

A Chipping Drill For All Situations

I have tried many chipping drills. Some have helped and others…..well, not so much. I do support trying to use the same chipping technique for most shots around the green, but switch clubs to achieve the desired results. I have tried many different drills to hone my chipping skills and I have found one that I use repeatedly throughout the season. It works well for short game and I think it will help yours as well.

Of course, I am focused on sharpening my short game because over the years, that has proven the best way to sustain my current low scores. But, what do I need to do to this year improve my scores and to keep this improvement moving forward. As I watch the movie ‘Seven Days In Utopia’, I am reminded of the saying that “the first step to finding a good game is to find some conviction”. In other words, be a student of the game and be open to adjusting/changing/improving the areas that need improving. Well, I think I know the where my conviction lies this year and I am excited to get started.

Successfully Hitting Out Of A Divot

I am fairly confident that during a friendly most amateurs who land in a divot on the fairway will use a foot wedge to improve their lie. I do say this with tongue in cheek, however I am pretty sure it does happen. During competitions I would say that this would never happen and all golfers would play it as it lies. Over the many, many years of playing golf I rarely (maybe twice a year) land in a divot in the fairway and as such do not work on hitting out of divots on a routine basis. This does not mean I have not worked on this important skill, it just means that I can.
