This will be my last post on Tiger Woods for a bit. I realize this is a bit like Ground Hog day and as such will break the trend of not reporting about Woods after today. Because of his return to golf starts tomorrow, there is great speculation about how he will perform. The golfing world is buzzing with his return and expectations are his performance are sky rocketing. Playing the Odds In Golf or Not!
If anyone ever tells you that golf is not a thinking game, then they have not played it competitively. Initially, golf is a sport where one plays against ones self and eventually expands into playing against others. During that entire journey, all golfers (regardless of their skill level) think about the 100 influences during every shot. There are times when I walk off the course mentally drained instead of physically. On those days, I usually played in a competition of some sort. “All I want is a hole in one” is the dream of many golfers. If you talk to most players, they will be able to recount a close call, but not the real thing. That elusive perfect shot is on the mind of every player when they step up to a par 3. The odds of shooting a hole in one for an amateur is about 12000 to 1; for a pro about 2500 to 1.
