For the past seven years I notice a distinct drop in views at The Grateful Golfer. I do not think the material is any less ‘awesome’ (please ignore my shameless plug), but the fact the all the tours are preparing for a resurgence of activity in January. It seems like last weekend that the golfing world took a collective sigh as the season came to an end. I realize that the Ryder Cup is not part of the PGA Tour, but it is a large enough event where it captured the attention of all golfers. The FEDEX Cup Changes Again
The FEDEX Cup has evolved 11 times since its inception in 2007. Well today’s announcement makes in an even dozen. The PGA Tour’s attempts to even the playing field over the years was not as successful as they had hoped, so the change in the 2018/2019 format is to simplify the Tour Championship so fans do not have to take advanced math degrees like Bryson DeChambeau to understand who has a chance to win the final prize money. Unfortunately, I think the FEDEX Cup decision falls short, again, to make the it a viable and interesting playoff format. Continue reading
In Between Clubs – Is This a Real Problem?
During the BMW Championship, I overheard several caddies talking to the player about yardage and how to adjust the grip on the club to ensure that they can make a full swing. This adjustment indicates that the player was in-between clubs for the yardage they wanted to hit. As I thought about my game compared to theirs, I rarely feel that I am in between clubs and the yardages I assess are plus or minus 5 yards anyway. So I ask, is being in between clubs a real problem for amateurs or is it something at only professionals need to be concerned with? Continue reading
