Recently, I talked about sinking short, knee-knockers. Putting is as much a mental thing as a physical. Figuring out how to sink 4 to 6 foot putts is a skill all golfers should master. I realize that sometimes it is a challenge, but for the most part these putts all come down to a process. Doing the same steps each time when putting (actually all our golf shots) is important because it eliminates unwanted swing errors. After watching a video by Nancy Lopez, her process is similar to the one I use especially with respect to alignment.

Do you ever feel that your practice routine is getting a bit stale. You use the same drills (which work most of the time) in the same fashion to hone your putting skills. Personally, I try to mix up my drills, but I do have my default putting drills that really helps build my confidence on the short grass. Regardless of how well I think my practice sessions are going, I have to admit that from time to time I need to shake up my routine. When I do, I sometimes putt left handed! Anytime we hit the green there is an expectation that we have a chance to sink the putt. It really does not matter how far the putt has to travel to the pin, all golfers think there is a chance. I feel that most of the time I putt well regardless of the distance. Well, to be fair, the longer the putt, the less likely the chance I will make the putt. This fact is nothing new, but I think there is a certain aspect of putting that is often overlooked when dealing with long putts. It is not a secret, but I think many players forget to invoke the simple rule of long putting.
