A Minor Swing Change That Worked

Trying to find the proper swing is a lifetime quest for any golfer. If we are not tinkering with our swing, than we are just not trying to get better. Of course, I say this with tongue in cheek. Not everyone tries to find that perfect combination of tempo, swing speed and weight transfer to maximize the results from every swing. As a student of the game, I am always trying to find that something extra that will help me gain the slightest advantage over the course. Recently, I adopted a minor change with my driver that has proven to be one of the best changes I have made in years. Moving forward, I can only see positive results off the tee.

Choking Down On Your Golf Club

I have read many articles about choking down on a golf club to adjust distances to the green. This maneuver is often used in the professional rank and players who understand their normal yardages. I suppose it could be used by us regular players, but I think that just moving our hands without understanding what the results will be to the your ball’s distance and flight.

Trying To Hit Your Golf Ball Just A Bit Farther

Have you ever been in a situation where you need just 15 more yards to reach a par 5 in two? Or you need those 15 yards to clear a hazard? Or you are trying to squeeze out 15 yards to put a better club in your hands for an approach shot? Trying to squeeze out an additional 15 yards in golf is equivalent to other sports having that extra gear for a short period of time. At the more elite levels of sports, most athletes have this extra gear, but as amateurs it is not always available on demand. Personally, I can rarely squeeze out extra distance from my clubs and when I try it usually ends up in disaster.

Finding That Extra Gear in Golf

In many sports, athletes are told to dig deep and find that little extra something in the last minutes of a game. They are asked to exceed their normal playing abilities and shift gears to the next level. As an athlete who played many sports of the years, I can honestly say that it is possible to find that little extra something for a short period of time. Expect, I have never been able to find it on the golf course!

Putter Grip Pressure – Is It Important?

How tightly we grip your putter is very personal. It really depends on your stroke and tempo when putting. Personally, I grip my putter with a loose grasp and keep it very consistent through my entire putting motion. There really is no right answer as to putter grip pressure, it is something that you have to decide for yourself. There are, however, some aspects of the putting stroke that are must be followed; yet pressure on the putter is not really one of them.
