In just over a week, the first Major of the year will start. The Masters is my favourite Major because of the history to this event and the fact that it is set up the exact same way every year. Augusta National is an amazing course and I love the play around Amen Corner. The field will be the strongest to date this year and picking a winner will be virtually impossible. But, I think it is time to take a chance and play armchair quarterback.

What I Learned From The 2021 Masters
With the start of my golf season yesterday, the lessons I learned from the 2021 Masters will easily be applied to my golf game. There was not magic shot that made me want to reevaluate my game, but more of lessons that will apply to every golfer regardless of skill. These lessons will not force you to change your swing mechanics, but more on how we approach our game for a mental stand point. I think the final round of the 2021 Masters demonstrated the many mental aspects of golf I espouse and will continue to discuss.

With a weather delay to break up the action, it was difficult to know what would happen when they returned to Augusta National. As it turns out, Matsuyama loved the break and charged forward with the most gains yesterday. Except for a few 68s, there really was not much action at the top of the leaderboard. With Justin Rose shooting even par yesterday, he opened the door for the rest of the field to narrow his four stroke lead. It is not as if Rose failed to score well, shooting even par, it just that the other players took advantage of the better scoring conditions. I am actually surprised at how many players actually shot under par (11 on day one); 38 players were in red numbers on day two with Bernd Wiesberger and Tony Finau shooting 66. The conditions must have been very friendly to scoring to have just under half the players shooting under par. Yesterday was atypical and all the movement reminded me of what should happen today – moving day!

Firing a seven under par 65 on the opening day at Augusta National sure sets Justin Rose as the possible favourite for don this year’s Green Jacket. He started off poorly, with two bogeys in the seven holes, then fired a improbable nine under for the last 11. Talk about a dramatic turn around that might lead to Butler’s Cabin. He sure blew my picks out of the water, but wait it is still early and there is plenty of golf still left to play.
