If you live in the northern climes, then golfing in the snow is inevitable. As the cold weather creeps in and there is little chance or reprieve, golfing when the white rain appears will happen. In my earlier years, I definitely would hit the links while the temperatures hovered around 0° C or 32°F. On many occasions I would would have toques, gloves, many layers, and a face warmer on just to be able to hit the links. Now tha that I am in the back nine of my career hitting the links when there is a chance of snow is a no go for me. It does not eliminate the challenge of golfing in the snow for many, just not going to be an issue for my game.

Man Is It Cold!
There is zero chance of doing anything outside that is golf related in the winter! We are entering a cold snap where temperatures at night are expected to reach the mid to high 20s…..below zero. This morning when I rolled out of be it was a brisk minus 27° C (-16° F) and the thought of doing anything golf immediately rocketed from my brain. On days like this everything is moves slower including my thought processes. Given that this situation is not unique to this time of year, one would think that I had a contingency plan to keep my golfing passion rolling. Well, usually I do have something in the fire, but not today.

Winter golf is really not a option where I live. As I am writing this article, it is minus 17° Celsius (1° F), 2 feet of snow on the ground, but really sunny. This is typical weather for this time of year, so winter golf is really not an option. However, I found this article that fits perfectly for the early spring and late fall. All the tips hit are spot on and I thought it was worth sharing if you find yourself playing golf in in wet, cool conditions.

The Last Quarter of the 2016 Golf Season
The seasons change very quickly once September arrives. It feels like just last week we were suffering through a heat wave. Now, it is below 10 degrees Celsius in the morning. Although refreshing, it is an eye opener for many golfers.
Early birds start to become a thing of the past because of the cool temperatures and very wet grass. Golf finishes by 8 pm instead of 9:30 pm. Layers of clothes creep into our golf bags as we prepare for the next two months of golf season. Continue reading
