The Players Championship – Final Day Prediction

Moving day did not disappoint yesterday at TPC Sawgrass. Jon Rahm shot an 8 under 64 and Brandt Snedeker a 7 under 65. These were the best scores of the day and as such, they are both in the hunt for the winner’s circle. Not to be out done, Tommy Fleetwood and Rory McIlroy fired back and sit tied for second. The final day is going to be very exciting!

The big unknown for today will be the weather. Forecast to be cold and wet, the players who grew up in such conditions should have an advantage. If that is the case, then I expect to see McIlroy and Fleetwood in a playoff. I predicted this earlier, (well not McIlroy) and still believe that Fleetwood will be crowned champion.

As with all final days of a professional tournament, any player who plays above the rest of the field will have a chance to win the event. Today, the big influence is going to be the the weather and I expect the Fleetwood and McIlroy to shoot 4 under 68. They have the game and experience to play in adverse weather.

Time will tell how smart I really am, but if nothing else my prediction will give me something to root for. Who do you see winning today?

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!

  1. Jim,

Actually speaking of Jim…what a round by Furyk!!! Gave those European Ryder Cup players a run for their money. Great tournament and happy for Rory, has played well all year just couldn’t find a way to close out a tournament until now.

  2. Jim, I am sensing a run by DJ and Rose today. Rose is probably too far back though. Probably anyone at -10 or better can win it. Rory has the five straight top-6 finishes and is due. Fleetwood is certainly capable but has been out of character this year with terrible performances on the weekend. Maybe too small a sample size? Not sure what’s going on with him. Both looked a little shaky yesterday. I have no idea who wins this 🙂

    Enjoy the coverage!
