The Best Is Yet To Come!

With five weeks or so until opening day, I can happily report that my indoor swing training is working very well. My back feels looser and I feel that my indoor driving net has was well worth the effort of constructing it. With all the practice I am doing in the off-season I can only think that the best is yet to come for my golf game.

As you can see, the red aim point is adjustable.

First, I want to thank Kevin for suggesting that I put a ribbon in the hitting net as an aim point. I actually took it one step forward and placed an adjustable hit point. I attached the strap to my net and as you can see, it has a slid-able aim point.

I purposely went this route because I want to use three specific irons; PW, 7-iron, and 5-iron. Obviously, the low setting is for the 5-iron and it adjusts up accordingly. I stand about six feet from the net for each club and the bottom aim point is about 3 feet off the ground. I came up with these distances after some trial and error, so if you want to use these distances; I suggest you use them as a starting point. Now that I am set, I find that the quality of my practice is much better.

I am still having a bit of a challenge striking the DIY hitting mat, but I am working through it. I am hitting a bit behind the ball, so it is time to break out the alignment sticks. My hitting mat is a bit small, but I will figure out how best to incorporate my training aids over the next week or so.

Lastly, it is time to start chipping. I have all the tools, so now it is time to devote the time my short game. The good thing is I have room to make a 5 yard and 10 yard hitting position. Of course I still need set this up and ensure that the landing area has more rugs so my golf balls do not bounce around all over the place. Again, I will have to experiment with the final set up. When I figure it out, I will share all the details.

As you can see my indoor training is going very well and I cannot help think that the best is yet to come. I am excited that the first month of the season because I will not use this time getting my swing back. I plan to start out the gates at a gallop!

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!

  1. Jim, love what you’ve done here and your approach. Working the golf muscles now will be a huge advantage when your course opens in the spring. There’s nothing like playing and not having to bang off winter rust. Congrats on your achievement!

  2. That’s genius. Better than just the ribbon I used. You can work on controlling the flight of the ball too with any club in the bag with the addition of the sliding target.
