Predicting The 2020 Masters Winner

Predicting any winner of a golf tournament is extremely difficult. Predicting the winner of a Major is crazy hard. Predicting the winner of the 2020 Masters is almost impossible. And yet, I am here to offer my views on the next green jacket wearer and see where the chips fall. It is always fun to make a prediction especially since I have nothing to lose!

Without going into all the data I used to make my decisions (actually, my predictions are based on gut feel – pretty scientific, eh!) I figure I will just jump right in and start letting the world know who is going to win this weekend. I have three categories and I think each offers the broad enough scope that you can get behind. Without further ado:

My Dark Horse: Believe it or not, I was going to pick Sergio Garcia. Unfortunately, COVID removed him from the mix. So, I going to have to throw my hat into Rickie Fowler’s ring. Rickie has fallen out of the limelight over the past few years and 2020 is no different. The reason I pick Fowler is because he usually plays well in the fall. With The Masters being played in November, this might be the time he puts aside his woes and rises to the top of the leaderboard.

Sentimental Favourite. Normally I pick Phil Mickelson. Although I hope he does well at Augusta National, he is not my sentimental favourite in 2020. My pick for this category is Freddie Couples. I realize there is almost no chance he will win, but man would that be great. At 61, it would be a story for the ages. Besides, I enjoy watching “Boom Boom” swing smooth and easy on every shot. Winning would be the icing on the cake.

Winner of the 2020 Masters. Well, I am not going with the odds on favourites because I think that someone is being overlooked. After careful consideration, I am selecting Brooks Koepka as the winner of the green jacket in 2020. He is back from injury and ready to perform once again on the big stage. He has the long game that the pundits love and if his short game is up to par, then he will be standing atop the leaderboard on Sunday.

The 2020 Masters starts on Thursday. It is going to be exciting to watch how this great field will navigate a course with no fans, but with everyone watching. Who do you have as the winner of the green jacket this year.
