Goodbye 2020 – It Is Time For A New Golf Season

Well, we made it! Today is the last day of 2020 and I am sure there is no one sad to see it leave. Without going through all the nause, lets just agree that it is time to welcome 2021 with open arms. Look forward, I have a great sense of hope and positivity! I do not begrudge the golfing conditions last year because given all the restrictions, I believe the management and staff at Osprey Links Golf Course did an outstanding job limiting the impact of COVID on our golf game. Given that 2021 offers a greater opportunity to golf an entire season, I am happy to say goodbye to 2020.

As I reflect on my 2020 golf season I can smile and be grateful. I played over 70 rounds of golf with my friends and each round had its own level of enjoyment. Of course when I played well, I enjoyed the rounds more 😉 Overall, the amount of golf I played was awesome and I hope to improve the number of times and quality of my play.

I found at least 10 dozen golf balls while only using 3 dozen of my own. That is a pretty good trade off. However, of the 10 dozen I gave away 9 of those to Rick, Blair and Fernando. I am very discerning about which ball I want to play so, lucky them because my good fortune of finding balls was their good fortune.

I played golf with Hickory Staffed clubs for the first time in my life. It was great fun and I hope to do that again next year. I am thinking about purchasing a set of hickorys, but have not decided to go forward yet. I would like to play in another tournament with the gentlemen from the Golf Historical Society of Canada. However, we shall see what 2021 brings in that regard.

Of course, I am grateful for the blessings in my life. I have many and this is the day to be reflective and acknowledge how blessed I really am. I have a fantastic family and friends in my 3 foot space. Without them, navigating 2020 would have been exponentially more challenging.

Lastly, I want to thank all the first responders, essential workers, brothers in arms, and all other workers who kept our society afloat. They are the true heroes of 2020 and I would be remise if I did not express my gratitude for their sacrifices in 2020.

I am not sure what you are going to do to ensure that 2020 hits the road. For me, I am going to watch Canada play in the World Junior Hockey Championship, have a libation, and watch as the hope of an awesome 2021 floods over the world.

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!

  1. First, I would like to thank you for introducing me to your blog when we played hickory golf this August. My trip to North Bay was my only excursion this year for obvious reasons and I was thankful for the hospitality at Osprey Valley.

Looking back at 2020, I accomplished a lot in my golf journey. I played my last round a week and a half ago. It was my 193rd game of the season. One hundred rounds of hickory golf was also a high and my first hickory hole in one another highlight of a challenging year. I also got to play twenty rounds on heritage golf courses this year.

I look forward to the 2021 golf season. My hickory clubs are ready to go and I am looking forward to introducing more people to hickory golf and appreciating the early game.

Jim, if you decide to get a hickory set, please contact me for assistance. A good set is not expensive, and like modern clubs, care in matching a set is very important. I would be glad to help.

Thank you again for producing this blog. I look forward to reading it daily. Best wishes for a Happy New Year.
