Golf is a goofy game. There are times when I hit my ball exactly as expected and then all heck breaks out. For the past three weeks, I am pulling my irons left. In many cases, I have thought I had things all figure out, but for some reason I have not been able to crack this nut. I feel that this challenge will continue to persist if I do not find a fix. I am down to two things: alignment and casting over the top of my swing. Or at least that are my thoughts at this time.
I have a match today and I expecting that I will be hitting my irons the same way. The fix I will use is to aim farther to the right to see if I can at least hit the green. Overall, my misses are not too bad because I still have a chance for an up and down. However, as a golfer who has high expectations, this hitch in my iron play is frustrating.

Interestingly, it all started when I adjusted the width of my stance. I am remise to go back to my old ways just for short term success. The evolution of my game needs the stance change and I will stick with it until I figure it out. As the golf season is getting shorter, this might be a process that leads into next year. I do not really care about that, just that I want to fix my swing woes.
Golf is a fun sport. Some challenges are out of our control and others are self imposed. Regardless, it is a journey to never seems to end and for that I am truly grateful. It helps with my desire to continue to improve in some area of my life and golf sure helps to fill that void.
Well, I am off to the course to day to play my semi-final match in the Open tournament at Mattawa Golf and Ski Resort. It is going to be great fun as I am matched against my long-hitting friend Cody. More to follow on the results. In the meantime, have an awesome day and remember to be grateful.
I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
Lots of things can cause that. Coming over the top is just one of them. Barring having a pro help, I’d be taking video of my swing until I capture the problem both from behind looking down the line and from the front looking over the ball at me.
An over the top move will be easily seen from behind. If it’s something like too much wrist extension that will be easier seen from the front I think.
What I know for sure is figuring it out without feedback is much, much harder.

You are right about that. Thanks.

Jim, best not to monkey with mechanics before a match. Think target! Work out the swing on the range afterwards. Good luck and play well!

Thanks Brian,
My match was postponed until Monday due to my friends injury. I will not change anything before then for sure.
