Buying Golf Balls For Your Game

Before anyone starts to form their opinion on what golf ball is best for everyone, I am here to state that there is no right answer. Yup, that is correct! There is no one size fits all golf ball for every player. Personally, I have tried (and reviewed) many different types of golf balls and have settled on two dissimilar brands and performance results depending on the season. Before I delve into my preferences, I would like you to open your mind the the possibility that you are playing the wrong ball for your game.

Before discussing what I do, listen to Mark Crossfield about selecting the right ball for your game.

It seems pretty simple, right? Selecting the proper ball for you game is easy peasy. If that was the case, than any ball would work if it fits in the same manufacture category. Well, I do not find this to be the case. Nothing is as simple as we think.

I have mentioned before that I use two different types and manufacturer of golf balls. In the hot summer months, I use the Titleist Pro V1x and Pro V1 because I can maximize its performance for my game. I have tried other balls, but always gravitate back to these balls. The challenge I am facing now is cost. At $72 cdn a dozen (amazon) or $218 cdn for 4 dozen (yearly special) – plus tax – this ball is quickly becoming too rich for my me. I am a single digit golfer, but the cost / game value is soon going to force me to look for another summer ball.

In the spring and fall, by contrast, I use a low end Wilson Elite 50. This ball works very well for my game during the colder months. Being a 50 compression ball, I am still able to maximize distance without losing too much distance. Additionally, I bought a few years worth of balls a while back when they were $15 cdn, tax in, during a sale at Golftown. It took me a while to find this ball, but I am very happy with my selection.

As you can see, there are no rules to selecting a specific golf ball. The preferences of each player are limitless. How the ball performs, well only you can decide. Regardless of which ball you select, use them with confidence and have fun!

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!

  1. Well our seasons go from hot to almost hot so I don’t feel the need to change balls just because of the calendar. 😂

The ball I’ve liked the best this year so far has one problem. It doesn’t come in a single color. The Srixon Q Star Tour Divide is a ball that gives me more spin than any other somehow. I can’t explain it, but it’s no longer a question after giving them multiple tries.

But I don’t like the ‘divide’ idea. I play with yellow balls because they are the easiest for me to keep my eye on in the air. Yellow and red stinks for that. Yellow and blue is even worse. Yellow and orange is better and so is yellow and white but neither is as easy to see as a full yellow ball. But I’ll put up with that for the added spin I get from that ball. It’s too much fun attacking pins.
