I Was Chased Off The Golf Course!

Have you ever been chased off the golf course? It is a very disappointing and can lead to an ungrateful golfer! That was me yesterday. I started off playing my normal round by hitting two balls. I figure since I am by myself on the golf course I might as well take advantage, take my time, and practice some challenging shots. Well, after three holes, I stopped playing two balls and focused on one only. I sped up my pace and finished the last six holes in less than an hour. Yup, I was motoring around the course because I was being chased!!!

The little pest on the left was so thick that I actually had some fly in my mouth! I was playing golf at 0630 hrs, it was cool with no breeze. These buggers were on me so fast I could not stop swatting them as I set up. It was so distracting and as such, I made a decision to scoot my way to the end.

Therefore, for the first time in a long time, I was chased off the golf course. As a side note, I do not wear bug juice as it is too many toxins for my medical challenges. I do try some natural remedies, but did not have any on yesterday. Hence, my discomfort in between shots.

Mosquitoes, black flies, deer flies, gnats, and no-see-ums are all apart of golfing in the great white north. Every year the golfers in Canada must fight this hazard until September. We don the repellents like perfume in the hopes that it will keep these pesky beasts away. Sometimes we are successful and others….well, yesterday happens. You get chased off the golf course!

Bugs are a fact of life as a golfer. Well, yesterday I was chased off the course, next time I will try and tough it out longer and beat those pesky. For now, I will take my golf as it comes.

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!

  1. The dreaded bugs of life up north. Back in Toronto we don’t suffer as much. One friend of mine played at Taboo in Muskoka in May. The black flies were so bad he had to leave after 6 holes.
I see to attract flying pests to me due to my blood type I was told. We used to go fishing in Mattawa and Bissett Creek. The bugs used to drive me bonkers. Yet the hardly bothered my dad.
I hate bugs more than rain on the course.
Down here in Florida I hate when it’s no-see-ums season.

  3. I can’t remember ever being chased off the course by bugs. That can’t be fun. I’ve always got bug spray in my bag, but only need it very occasionally. I’m one of those people that seem to be less than appetizing I guess. 😂 And we don’t quite have the variety of biting insects you get up north either.

But we’re getting chased off regularly by passing storms this time of year. They come almost daily, but move fast and if you’re not to rigid with your schedule, you can usually get a round in.

Our round last week seemed to be in a horseshoe shaped clear spot. Rain surrounded us except to the west where the wind was coming from. And it was kind enough to let us finish. But we haven’t been that lucky every week. We got drenched on hole 17 two weeks back. It snuck up on us fast and we never stood a chance. By the time I walked from green to cart, I was so soaked it was useless to pull out the rainsuit. It came down so hard we couldn’t play the last hole. And the drive home might have been easier done in a boat. lol

Sounds like storm watching is a real thing where you are. It happens from time to time here, but not as quick as you described. I will be going out tomorrow, but the weather and bugs (hopefully) will not be a factor.

      Cheers Jim
