Balance and Your Golf Swing

One of the important aspects of the golf swing is balance. It is something that every golfer is trying to master in order to have a smooth, controlled swing. It is something I worked on for years and I found that the concept of 80% helps keep my swing tight and repeatable. However, that is not the topic of today. Sam Snead offers an interesting approach to managing the balance of your swing. It is a simple drill and I can definitely see the value to giving it a try. It is simple, easy to do, repeatable and sustainable…..all the tenets to a great golf drill.

Balance and your golf swing is something worth examining. If you are not sure, balance is something that requires you to maintain throughout your entire swing movements. According to experts, your weight distribution during your swing should be in the centre of your feet. Some pressure should be felt on the balls of your feet, but not in your toes or your heels. This position is very important to maintaining your balance and consistently hitting great golf shots. Here comes Sam Snead to help us with this skill.

Lifting our toes is a great idea. I tried it on the floor without a club and it definitely focuses my weight on the balls and arches of my feet. I plan on trying this in my garage with my Orange Whip later today to see if my balance during full swing movements can be improve with lifting my toes. Regardless, it is another tool in my toolbox that is simple to try and execute.

Keeping our balance during our golf swing is important. I work on balance a fair bit during each golf season. I will give this a try on the range and see if lifting my toes will help improve my game.

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!

  1. Sounds like a good exercise. We don’t want to be playing from our toes. That puts us off balance before we start.

But I won’t be playing barefoot again anytime soon. It’s been too long since my feet have been out in the sun and it’s not forgiving down here. Sunburn is something I gave up when I grew up. Lol
