Gripping The Golf Club Properly

The only connection between your body and the golf club is through your grip. Understanding the fundamentals of a good grip is probably the first fundamental every golfer should learn. Over the years, I have tinkered with my grip, but I have always reverted back to my interlocking neutral grip. This particular position works best for my game and as explained by Jack Nicklaus, it is likely best for most players. The challenge for beginners is understanding how to properly grip the golf club in order to maximize their swing. Fortunately, Jack is here to help.

Before we move on to what Jack offers as the best way to hold a golf club. Here is a review of the three most common golf grips. If you do not know which is best for you, I suggest you go the range and give them all a try.

Personally, I use the overlapping grip. I started with the Baseball Grip and transitioned as my game improved. I did try the overlapping grip, but found that I did not have the control I liked so I discarded it in short order. Regardless of my preferences, if you are starting golf I recommend you spend some time determining which grip is best for your game. This foundational skill is very important as it impacts all aspects of your golf swing. If you do not believe me, listen to Jack:

The golf grip is very important to every players game. It is the only connection between our body and the club. Hence, understanding what works best for your game is critical to lower golf scores. If you have not taken the time to determine the golf grips that works best for you, I suggest you head to the range and figure this fundamental skill out before you head down the wrong golf path.

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
