My Golf Season Is Officially Over

I have delayed the inevitable long enough. I am putting my clubs away today after a good cleaning. I delayed this final step of my golf season as the weather is wonderful. Unfortunately, other life stuff is getting in the way and I have decided to close the books on my 2025 golf season. As the sad time arrives, I like to look back on my season to determine if there is a way to improve my play in the upcoming golf season. I look at many different aspects to my game and conclude a few things that might or might not be surprising to you.

As I clean my equipment, I like to look to see if anything needs replacing. Except for a few grips, which I will change over the winter, my gear is still in great shape. I do not need to change anything, however I am looking a something different for next year, but I will talk about that over the winter after I think about it a bit more. More to follow on this topic.

I look at how I played over the year. This year was nothing stellar. I did shoot a few low scores and won a few matches, however there was nothing spectacular about my year. Winning the last two matches over my friend Mike was fun (bragging rights continue), but I did not have a week of two of low scores as in previous years. Maybe it was the 5 week forced rest for a hernia operation in June, but I do not like to point fingers.

Hickory shafts were once the newest technology!

On the positive note, our Men’s Night team did very well this year. We were in the money quite often and that is always fun. Mike (a different one from above), Barrie, and Charlie are great playing partners and I really enjoyed hitting the links with them every Thursday. It is always great fun playing golf with friends.

I enjoyed playing with my hickory sticks this year. I missed a few events due to my operation and vacation, however I will endeavour to play more with them next year. They are loads of fun to use and it opens up a new facet of golf for me. Overall, this is an area I would like to expand upon next year.

Well, that is about it for now. I had a good season and do not regret any part of it. As I put my clubs away, I will remain grateful that I can still play. My gratitude towards golf continues to grow as it helps me navigate many other aspects of my life. Good bye 2025 and hello to my upcoming 2026 golf season.

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!

  1. One of my neighbors texted me today wanting company to play a few holes. Of course I’d already planned on playing so I joined him. He’s a big guy. And not in great shape and he really struggled to make it through the 5 holes we played.

It’s right to be thankful that we can still play the game. Still on our feet. Still able to walk 18 holes and still do for our family after.

  3. Wow the end of the season up north. I’ll be visiting Toronto in a couple weeks and I hope to squeeze in one last round with friends there. I don’t know about your operation and I hope you are fully recovered. Have a great offseason prepping for 2026!
