Are You Playing Golf Today?

Are you playing golf today? It is a very simple question that does not require much thought. However, let me ask this question again? Are you playing golf today?

The physical act of going to the golf course quickly answers this question with a resounding yes! You make your way to the links, pull out your clubs, hit the ball between 60 and 120 times, pack up your clubs and then go home. So, yes you played golf today. However, is that the real meaning of this question? Continue reading →

Golf is a Game of Inches

I enjoy watching Dustin Johnson, Jason Day or Jordan Spieth crush the ball off the tee. Something about seeing a tiny white sphere rocket through the air with bullet like speed is mind-boggling. Yet, as we revel over the distances many professional and amateurs have gained over the past 20 years, golf remains a game of inches!

Regardless of where a player is on the course, an inch in any direction can turn a poor shot into an awesome one. Receiving a ‘member’s bounce’ or feeling utterly disappointed boils down to inches. The real challenge for most players is to understand how to maximize these inches and still crush the ball 300 yards! Continue reading →

Focused On Playing Great Golf

As a golfing fanatic, I am focused on playing great golf. I think I do all the right things to improve my game and I am not sure I can do anything else. Sometimes, it feels as if all my effort goes unrewarded. Do you ever feel that way?

Being a student of the game takes on a life of its own sometimes. Reading books, writing articles, watching videos, practicing, playing, and talking about golf, uses up some of my free time! I believe that to be a better player, all the above things need to play some sort of role in my passion. However, I am not so sure I am on the right path to being a scratch golfer!

The Grateful Golfer Mid Season Review

It is about that time to review my current progress during the 2016 golf season. Each year, I like to examine how my season is progressing and figure out if I need a mid-season adjustment in order to meet my pre-season goals. I am sure many of you do the same thing and my process is not unique, but it is something I do every year!

This year, my mid-season review is a about 1 month late. Normally, I try to examine everything by mid-July, but due to several big life changes (retiring, moving, starting work again) I did not play as much golf in early July as normal. That is okay, however, because I needed to ensure my priorities were on my life changes and nothing else. So here is what I think so far!

#GolfChat and The Olympics

Where does golf fit into the picture.  In a previous post, Golf – an Olympic Sport, I mentioned that the 2016 Olympics are in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The planning for the return of golf was in the works for years, but not that it is here, there seems to a question of whether its return will be well received. With many of the worlds best male golfers opting out of the Olympics this year, it is difficult to determine if golf needed the Olympics or the other way around.

I will remind everyone that reigning Olympic Gold Medalist is Canadian George Lyon. Limited to two countries back in 1904 (Canada and the USA) Rio organizers hope for at least 30 countries to be represented in both the men’s and women’s competitions, from all continents. The organizers have already exceeded that goal with 41 countries vying for gold in golf.

I really do not have an opinion whether golf is good for the Olympics or vice versa, however some of my fellow #GOLFCHAT authors have put pen to paper and I thought I would share their views.  Continue reading →
