I often wondered if my golf game improves over the course of the my golf season. It is important to me to keep my game progressing, but sometimes I think that I have hit my wall of success. I am not fussed by my lack of progress, but it is important that I at least feel that my game is improving over the course of the season. As I get older, I find that even small successes are enough to keep my motivation going forward. I do understand that at 60 years old, future success will be measured in smaller and smaller increments; and I am okay with that. How about you? Would small successes be enough for you to stay motivated?

Going Back To My Old Hitting Style
My experiment of swinging my driver to achieve a higher ball flight with my driver is officially over. I have tried different swing mechanics and none have produced any significant, consistent success off the tee. Thus, I have decided to stop fighting my natural swing because it was causing me nothing but frustration. It might seem like a strange topic to talk about, but I think it has value to any player trying to make changes to improve their game.

The charity golf tournament I played in yesterday was fantastic. The point of the event was to raise money for North Bay and District Humane Society Adoption Centre project and from the looks of the smiling faces around the club house, this event was a huge success. Upon our arrival we registered and quickly headed to the lunch BBQ to scarf down a cheeseburger. With a full belly and water in hand, my group of regulars headed to our starting hole. The weather was fantastic and course (Osprey Links Golf Course) was in great shape. By all accounts, the day was going to be amazing!

Today I am reuniting with my old crew. We signed up to play in a four person in support of 13th Annual Monaghan and Furry Friends Scramble. Proceeds from this year’s event support the North Bay and District Humane Society Adoption Centre project – now under construction! This will be the third time we play in the shotgun scramble and has become a yearly must play event. Hosted at Osprey Links Golf Course, I expect the event will be well organized and our treatment will be outstanding (as usual). There is no real winner of the event except for all the participants!

Over the past three weeks my golf game has improved to a point where I feel I am hitting my mid season stride. I have about 20 rounds under my belt and many of those loops were wrought with inconsistent hitting. Yesterday, I played an early morning round (0700 hrs) that resulted accentuate my positive play as of late. I shot a 2 birdies, four bogeys and 12 pars. Of the four bogeys, I made three poor shots that resulted in two penalty strokes. So, I am happy with my play as of late and feel that shooting under par is not out the realm of possibilities during my 2022 season.
