Golfing Solo on the Golf Course

Gratitude2Golf is an awesome social game. It offers great opportunities to meet some fantastic people and I generally take advantage of it. Sometimes, however, it is nice to play a round solo to gather my thoughts and focus on being in the moment.

Today, by the time you read this post, I will either be on the course or long finished. I am playing early birds at my home track and anticipate being the only player there for at least an hour. A few years back, I played many solo early bird rounds and enjoyed walking the course in solitude. Today should be no different! Continue reading

Golf Rant: What is That Thing Beside the Bunker?

Many of the regular readers understand that The Grateful Golfer is about positive golf talk. I try to encourage, suggest, recommend the great things about golf when I can. Well today, I was perplexed on the first hole and maybe you can help me out!

Osprey Links hole 1

Osprey Links Hole 1

Today, I was in the second group out. We were on the first hole at Osprey Links Golf Course which is a par 5 dogleg to the right. The turn of the dogleg starts at about 250 yards out off the tee and on the right of this hole is a water hazard and two bunkers guarding the initial turn. This is a great starting hole, but I digress.

As Blair and I made our way down the fairway, the day was starting off great. We were following the first group of 3 players and everything seem as it should. But suddenly, as we made the turn towards the green, I spotted this black think sitting in the grass beside the two bunkers. I was perplexed to see this object just sitting there and started to ponder if it had any real use on the golf course. I was not sure, but I am confident that you, the reader, can help me out! A Grateful Golfer Milestone – 100,000 Views

having fun

It is hard to believe that in such a short time I have already achieved one of my first milestones! When I started the Grateful Golfer Blog just over 4 years ago, I thought that 100,000 views at any time would be awesome! Well, I am thrilled that yesterday I have achieved this milestone.

If I achieve my last milestone of 2500 followers, then I will reevaluate what is next!

I am grateful for all the support I have received along the way and I cannot express how happy I am to achieve one of my milestones. Thanks for reading!

The Open: Troon Got Trooned

Troon got Trooned! This phrase, coined by Brian Penn at All About Golf, fits The first day of The Open! Of course everyone is talking about Phil Mickelson’s 63 and 3 shot lead; I for one am happy for Lefty, but unfortunately I did not predict such a strong start for this veteran or any of the current leaders. As some pundits are saying that this is only the first day and tomorrow thinks might be different.

The low scores are quite amazing considering the reputation of Royal Troon. Discounting Mickelson’s score, there is still 1/3 of the field under par; for a Major! 11 players were minus 4 or minus 5! That is an amazing number of players who Trooned Troon. Continue reading
