Do You Have a Favourite Golf Instructor?

I thought about this question for some time before putting my thoughts on paper. Like many of my readers, I glean much of my instructional information from a variety to teachers (notice I did not say coach – two totally different beasts). I read, watch, experiment and then discard many tips and hints over the course of a year. For a tip to take hold in my game, I use three basic factors that will stand the test of time. These ‘golden rules’ help me sift through the plethora of white noise out in cyberspace.

Play Golf With Better Players

As an amateur athlete in multiple sports, I always aspired to play my best. Of course that did not always happen, but for the most part I can look back and confidently say that I rarely left anything on the playing field. This desire was driven from an innate drive always want to improve. My golf game is no better and I enjoy seeking new and better methods to lower my golf score. Yesterday, I came across an interview by Rory McIlroy that struck home. And I think it is worth sharing.

New Method vs Old Method for Chipping

Recently, I was asked to look at a video that touts that there is a new and, potentially, more effective way to chip around the green. Thanks to Mac Adams for sending me the video and I finally had a chance to look at what Danny Maude from ‘Play Better Be Better‘ had to say. My first impression was that he offers many great tips on chipping, but I am not convinced it is a new way of chipping.
