Double Hitting My Golf Ball

During my last round of golf, I double hit my golf ball. I was off the 9th green about 15 yards and setting up for a pitch shot. My ball was buried a bit in the grass, but not so deep that I had to change my shot. So I set everything up, started my swing, and double tap. I hit my ball twice and was 17 yards from the green when all was done. Needless to say, I hung my head low, walked over to my ball and hit on the green about 25 feet from the pin. I was very disappointed! Continue reading

Do You Club Up and Swing Easy?

On my road to recovery, I am not a physically strong as normal. This is a by-product of my treatments and something I cope with every day. My fatigue and weaker state has not stopped me from playing golf, however I have modified club selection to account for my inability to crush the ball! Continuing to play into the fall, I realize that I am clubbing up more often than not to achieve the same mid-summer distances. After some thought, I realize that changing clubs to adjust for conditions is a fact of golf most amateurs likely avoid. Continue reading

Sinking Long Putts Lower Your Golf Score

What a profound statement! Who would have thought that sinking a long putt would help lower my golf score! I think I need to pay more attention. As I remove my tongue from my cheek, I think every golfer understands the value of expectantly sinking a long putt. Sinking long putts provide nothing but positive aspects to our round. But I have to ask: what is a long putt? Continue reading

Selecting the Right Ball in a Scramble Tournament

I am on a bit of a tangent talking about scramble golf tournaments lately because of the discussion my first question a few days ago generated on Twitter. Today’s post will be the last in this series and then I will start to focus on the Ryder Cup! The theme of this post is selecting the right ball to play after the drive or in the case of a par 5, the third shot if you are on the green. It is a tough decision sometimes, but I have general guidelines I follow that helps easy the decision making process. Continue reading

Golf Tips From Magazines: Do They Really Work?

I subscribe to a major golf magazine and I am disappointed in the content. About half of the pages are advertisement (I understand the requirement) and about a quarter of what is left deals with topics, for the most part, I am not interested in. However, the last quarter of the magazine deals with tips and tricks on how to improve my golf game. I diligently read them, but find that are not very effective. I am not convinced I am receiving the value I expected from my magazine, but that is another discussion for another day; for now I wonder if the tips provided really work? Continue reading
