I recently had a conversation in the parking lot of Osprey Links with a gentlemen named Kevin. Our chat started by saying good morning to each other as he was putting his clubs away and I was heading out for a round of golf. Remember golf is a contact sport and chatting with other players around the course is always interesting. During our discussion, Kevin mentioned that he was having a tough time on the greens. He was struggling to sink the ball and in some cases, just get the ball to the hole. So, I thought I would offer up three putting drills that I have used/use over the years to helped me improve my short game dramatically.

Switching Clubs From Different Lies When Chipping
If you have tried to research anything information on switching clubs when chipping, I am sure you have encountered a plethora of options, techniques, and possibilities. While warming up before yesterdays round, I went through my normal routine of placing my ball in different depths in order to practice using different clubs to the same distance. My technique is very simple. The deeper the rough around the ball, the higher loft club I use to ensure I make clean contact on the ball. At Osprey Links, I hit my mid irons on at least half the holes. This happens on most par 4s (of which there are 9) and as such, half of my approach shots occur with these clubs. If 10% of my shots are happening with a group of clubs, then I would suggest that I need to ensure I know how to use them in order to keep my golf scores as low as I possibly can. Establishing this need, I have to wonder if there is anything special I need to do to ensure I hit my mid irons like professionals.
