Establishing A Handicap Index

I am a strong believer that every golfer should establish a handicap index. It is the benchmark that players can use as a starting point to improve their game. I definitely use it as such, but it is more than that. I helps manage expectations, level the playing field, and establish how many strokes I want to negotiate with players for a side game. I see no downside to having an accurate handicap index and recommend every golfer take the time to establish one.

Golf season is so close that I can feel my anticipation growing. I know that once I start that I will be driven to play as much as possible due to the already shortened season. This feeling of excitement is normal and is nothing new for this time of year. The rust that needs removing varies, however there are a few know aspects of my game that I am prepared for in order not to be discouraged early in my season. The mountains of information that golfers must sift through to be a better player is daunting. What Is Your Favourite Approach Distance To The Green

Hitting the ball on the green in regulation is the goal of every golfer. To accomplish this task, we think we need to be as close to the green as possible in order to make an easier approach shot. After years of trying different distances, I am not sure this is the case. For my game, I have a dead zone where I absolutely try to avoid as much as possible. It is that distance where my success rate of hitting the green diminishes because I have to manufacture a shot. I often wonder why players do not hit to a distance that works so they can create a natural, somewhat full swing. Well, the short answer is our lack of knowledge and understanding of what approach shots works best for our game. This challenge is a quick fix and one that every player can achieve the next time they step on to the links.
