The Science of Putting: Work, Energy, and Power

I bet you are wondering how your putt is affected by physics. Work, energy, and power are the core concepts used to determine the physics behind a putting stroke. I am not really sure if all of this information will help you become an better putter, but I found it very interesting. So, for all you science geeks out there, this is for you:

There are many aspects to putting that require our attention and the physics, perhaps, does not garner any focus. If you are a student of the game, then this knowledge might be of use. Regardless, putting is vital to lower golf scores, therefore I suggest you spend some practice time with the flat stick.

Working Towards Serenity On The Golf Course

When I played golf in the past (actually back about 25 years), extreme bouts of frustration would follow me around the golf course. If I made a poor shot or at least one that I felt should have been better, I would allow my frustration to build until it erupted. I am not proud of this fact, but it is something I think most golfers experience during their journey. My frustration was very much an internal thing, but it would eat away at my ability to play to a point were I had to grind out every shot. Golf was beginning to lose its luster and I actually thought about hanging up my sticks. That is until I made a decision to change!

The 2022 Golf Season Has Started: So, Now What?

Albeit slow, my 2022 golf season has started. With nine holes under my belt, it is now time to think about what I want to see happen to my game over the next 5 months. I always want to improve my game, but I am getting to the point where I want to enjoy playing as much as focusing my efforts on gaining a stroke here and there. I am planning one dramatic change this year and I am not sure how it will affect my game.

Playing Golf In 2022

Well my 2022 golf season has started. We played our first round yesterday and it went exactly as expected. I shot a few pars, a few bogies and one other. I actually did not keep my score because it did not matter. As in previous years, I felt like Bob Uecker from Major League. The first hole will be a precursor for my year. Yesterday, I had a putt for birdie and lipped out. I am not sure what it exactly means, but my 15 foot birdie putt was the best chance I had at a sub-par score all day.

How Quickly Things Change On The Golf Course

Like the weather this time of year, our fortunes on the golf course can change in a blink of an eye. A poor or lucky bounce can turn a birdie into an other with no remorse. This unknown factor is just one reason I love golf. An this is the reason why I am excited to play my first round of 2022 tomorrow at Osprey Links Golf Course.

The surprise of being able to play came quick. I was anticipating no playing until May, but the course has dried up enough to play the back nine. My mindset of waiting to play golf this year did a 180° about turn to get ready time is short. Of course, I have been anticipating this announcement for weeks and my equipment is clean and ready to go. It is going to be a great day on many levels.

This is what my second shot of 2022 will look like!

For tomorrow, I have zero expectations. Hitting the links is all about reconnecting with my friends, playing golf, and enjoying the moment. The score is irrelevant as I likely will only play 9 holes (that is a game day decision). Regardless, my 2022 golf season is starting I am a truly grateful I can play another year.

I am a grateful golfer! See you on the links!
