For the second year in a row, I was invited to play a round of golf by Bill Vossen. This invite was nothing out of the ordinary except our round was to be played with a set of hickory shaft clubs! The Golf Historical Society of Canada was hosting a few members at Osprey Links Golf Course to expose modern day players to a round of golf using equipment technology from the late 1800s and early 1900s. I have to say it that even though it was my second time using these amazing clubs, I found that the experience invigorated my golf game.

A couple of days ago I was invited by my friend Mark to play in the first annual Mattawa/Osprey Home and Away Match. It was a straight forward event where two teams of 12 play a two person scramble (six matches) where each twosome has a chance to win two points; One point for the front and one point for the back nine. After the first leg of the event at the Mattawa Golf and Ski Resort, Mattawa holds a two point lead over my team of Osprey Links. Since it is the first year, the idea was to keep thinks simple and full of fun!

All golfers have that little voice inside that helps drive their golf game. As you start to read my musings for today I know your accessing your voice to understand how it benefits or hurts your game. When I play golf, I sometimes have wandering thoughts that detract from my game. For some reason my focus is not as sharp as it should be and I forget to think about my routines that keep my game in check. I usually catch myself and make a concerted effort to channel my thoughts, but there are usually some outside influences that make it very challenging to mentally stay focused; some are avoidable and others not so much.

There are so many videos out there that it is hard to discern what is important and what is above their current skill level. From the title of the article, I guess you figured out that I won my match yesterday. After playing 18 holes with hickory sticks, I played another 18 holes against Scott. Steve and Dan, Scott’s friends (and now my friends) joined us to round out our group. These young players have strong developing games in addition to being great company during our round. There were some great shots, some not so great shots, and some forgettable shots. However, the company was fantastic, the weather was gorgeous and the course was in fantastic condition. Overall, it was a great round and I had a great time.
