Golf does not always have to be a serious game. There are ample opportunities to play jokes of friends in and around the golf course. I generally do not ‘pull’ jokes on my playing partners, but over the years I have seen some pretty funny things. Of course it is a matter of perspective sometimes, but for the most part, it was intended to be fun.

For years I have relied on my friends to help (complete) minor golf club maintenance. It is not that I did not have the skill, but more the knowledge to do simple things like change my grips. Well, I decided that relying on my friends is okay, it was time I took responsibility for my own equipment. Having said that, I took a small step forward and changed three of my grips last week and hope to test run my efforts on Sunday.

It reinforced my view that attitude is key to shooting low golf scores. If you read my previous posts, I broke par for the first time this year. Fighting to score low or grinding out a score is nothing new to any golfer. We have all played rounds where every shot down the stretch was as stretch. Some of the pressure was mental….actually lets face it; it is all mental. This post is not about finding your mental strength, although that would be a great topic, it is about focusing on the things that alleviate your worries about making each shot. There is a plethora of possibilities, but I have a few proven activities that works very well for my game.

If you play golf a little more than occasionally, you probably developed the habit of being dissatisfied with your golf score. Before you say that this is not true and start a list of why I am out in left field, think of your last game. Now, thing about how many strokes you left on the course that could have easily lowered your score. Now, think about how many times have you played this exact scenario on your head walking off the 18 green or having a libation in the clubhouse. Kind of makes you think……right?
