Well, it is that time of year. Yesterday Senior Men’s day was cancelled due to rain…..again. This week looked to be great fun with a jumble of scrambles mixed between the different pars. We will have to just wait until next week as our registration was pushed until then. Fortunately, I do not have to make up for the lost day as I am playing 3 out of the next 4 days.

As the summer transitions to fall, I need to take steps to be prepared for the change in weather and course conditions. As it turns out for the next two weeks, we are going to experience an average daily temperature of 18° C (65° F). This means lots of dew in the morning, less carry because it is cooler, and less touch when chipping because my ball will be harder. Fear not, I am used to this time of year and have a fail proof plan!

The ultimate goal of every golfer is to continuously shoot low golf scores. It makes sense because we would not keep score otherwise. To achieve the milestone of best round ever, I need to ensure that I am ready to accept the possibilities to improve my game. It is not really a challenge to try, but it is a challenge to accept the results when it flies in the face of the golf path your are travelling. Most of our physical changes require a change in mindset to be successful and this part of the process always seems to take the most time.

Golf swing tempo is very personal and one-size does not fit all. Each player has their own tempo and it is unique to their abilities (both physically and mentally). For my game, I know when my tempo is not ‘up to speed’ (yes, I went there) because I feel off balanced or rushed. Therefore, I need to keep my tempo in check or at least be cognizant of my tempo to lower my golf scores; it is a matter of awareness and staying within my swing abilities.
