Designated Shot Watchers

Wayne brings up a great idea that has merit. As I explained to him, I am the designated ball watcher for my group all the time. Go figure.

Opinion: Pace of Play # 2 – Designated Shot Watchers –

By Wayne Halm –

In my last Pace of Play (PoP) post I promised ideas for achieving four and a half hour rounds – the Designated Shot Watcher idea will move golfers toward that goal.

Frequently I take on this responsibility unasked.  I watch everyone’s shots, make mental note of the position of any balls off the fairway, and lead the player to it.  Most of the time this is unnecessary – but when it is needed it greatly improves the PoP.

As much as I might like to, I can’t play golf with everyone.  I believe the Designated Shot Watcher idea needs to be formalized into the game.

On and off the course I like to visualize how to play a golf hole. It helps me overcome the fear of making a tough golf shot by preparing my mind of all possibilities. I have a scenario and was wondering what you think.  Continue reading

Tiger Woods is Coming Back, Again!

The golfing world is a buzz with the news that Tiger Woods plans to make his return to golf after a year of rehabilitation. His initial steps back to competitive play will be at the Safeway Open, Oct. 13-16, at Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa, California. Now the discussions will start on why, not whether, this is good for golf.

I am not the biggest Woods fan and I am a bit skeptical that his return will do anything for golf. I understand he has seemingly limitless star power, however his brilliant light will only last so long if he cannot win early in his return. Continue reading

As mentioned previously, #GolfChat Authors produced some great articles on Pace of Play. These are not your usual complaints about being stuck on the golf course longer than expected. They cover various views about the Pace of Play that I think you will find very interesting. Continue reading
